Reforged with the HD W3 models from SC2

What if Blizzard re-reforged W3 using these graphics?

It wont be that hard right?

No more reforges, please. Just let the company die with the little dignity it has left xD.

Going back to topic, I like the models.

The HoS models used in some maps are even better. But frankly, reforged models are great (except for the human paladin). The issues are performance, shaders, lighting, visibility, old/dated unit control, and the missing/removed online features. Reforged is just a half-baked product and seen what blizzard has accomplished with other product, like SC2 (gameplay, performance, features, etc), we still have (although very little) hope of things improving over time.

BTW, did you guys checked the new features in SC2 Map Editor? They even claim that features from WC3 editor were added to their editor. Hope the team takes wherever of what is left of Reforged and make it what WC3 deserves.

There’s a reply in that thread where someone suspects that the final working version of WC3R will be a community mod in SC2. :stuck_out_tongue:

They either have new models or adapt the rest of the game to the models they have.
It doesn’t make sense to have so many details in front of a pj that is always seen from above.

Aside from the alternative redone heroes, I’m pretty sure all the unit and building war3 models are actually unchanged in SCII and the game simply renders them better. I did something that looked half as good back before reforged came out where I just removed the alpha glow from the team color of all the melee units and it made the game look much better. In my opinion War3 never needed to be remade, just tweaked.

The model format in StarCraft II is .m3 even for the Warcraft III assets (yeah, all have been converted) and the one for the textures is .dds.

Here are some links with Warcraft III gameplay in StarCraft II (current SCII PTR) and some screenshots of the HD versions of the Warcraft III models:

To access the Warcraft III assets within the Galaxy Editor, just follow these steps:

The Reforged Blademaster and some Outland Mushroom trees are also present in the game files, however, they’ve been converted to the StarCraft II file extension format.

Well, the biggest mistake of all was to keep the original War3 engine in place which is slow regardless the new Reforged vision graphic-wise. War3, SC2, HoS, W3R are all forks of the original engine and it is not surprise that SC2 can read Reforged files. I insists, what we saw in the original reforged reveal at Blizzcon 2018 was running in SC2 just with Reforged models: that explain the light, fog, shadows and shaders otherwise impossible to achieve in Reforged at release.

What I see here is they are merging the editors, and bringing new features to SC2 and doing a full overhaul of Reforged. It is impossible to achieve the original Reforged vision in the ancient War3 engine… remember they are going to Reforged/revamp every map in War3 and they fail to do so?

But will Warcraft Reforged build on the SC2 engine be abel to run alongside classic Warcraft 3?

Not a chance

Who cares. What stuck Reforged to be what it deserves to be is the obsession to be compatible with the ancient War3. Just a few people were happy at the beginning while others were asking for a new engine. But when Blizzard was unable to deliver, the internet exploded because the game was not as expected. Of course, it wasn’t: you can expect a complete overhaul with an ancient engine.

People also complained about compatibility. So what. A good game will attract old and new developers alike. If an old mod is good and it should not be compatible with Reforged, and if the effort pays, of course, the mod will be updated to Reforged. What we have now is just people complaining and leaving for the old 1.28 (or older) Warcraft 3.

Divided community, sure! But no one tells them they cannot coexist.

The payment is that they did not achieve it in the least.
Instead of trying to be compatible with the old by using a “layer” or a “translator”. They tried to make the game again from scratch but having everything from before and all its herrors.

The same error is that the budget was taken away from the game. We all realize that if the game had the love that it should have worked. Then we can discuss if it could have better or worse models. But the fault is not in the models or in the graphics. They are things that do not even have to do.
