So, I’ve played some of the Reforged and here are my thoughts about the changes and improvements:
- Graphics
Generally the Reforged graphics use more details, and many pictures look good. These pictures are for instance:
- Night Elves campaign image and icons.
However there are several disadvantages of the detailed graphics. Ghouls used to be funny, little creatures, but now they are taken too literally. The same goes for Dread Lord.
I noticed that the Reforged graphics is WarCraft 2 - styled which I like. This includes the trees, gold mine and the terrain.
In general the Graphics have been too much modified, instead of to be boosted. All Look & Feel of Reforged is completely different from the original WarCraft 3.
- Audio
This is unfortunately the weakest point of the Reforged! The new sounds (including foot steps) are too noisy. And, the Polish version of the voices are far worse than they used to be in Original. I please Blizzard to bring back the original Audio and it will be OK.
- Menu
This doesn’t look bad. It’s OK overall, but there is incosistence, so the classic and Reforged GUI is mixed up. However, I found the classic GUI much more intuitive and comfortable.
- Summary
As the Gameplay is the same, including mechanics, it’s not required to put it into this review. I feel that I can live with the new graphics, but not with the sounds. Old audio must be brought back.
As for the game interface many of the Classic features have been removed and I have no idea why. I love WarCraft 3 and as a fan of this game, I put hereby scores for the Reforged.
Graphics: 60%
Sounds: 20%
User Interface: 50%
I hope that Blizzard will understand that the Classic is just Classic and shouldn’t be messed up with new.
I think that in a year or so, the game will work better than it’s now and will offer more features.
Because even that I bought StarCraft: Remastered (which is good, because all features have been kept) will really think before I buy any of the Remaster from Blizzard.
