I hope Reforged characters (Such as Thrall, Arthas, Illidan, etc.) will be voiced by World of Warcraft/Heroes of the Storm voice actors once it is released on January 28.
oh my sweet summer child
Let’s get some Fs in chat, gamers.
WoW voice acting is so tryhard, glad we wont have it in failforged
I think they will try to use original voice actors and even voice samples where possible. Many of these are still the same as those used by WoW and even HotS, even if they sound different due to over 15 years of age.
Thrall was always voiced by Chris Metzen.
you have the dumbest opinion on the internet.
I hope this is a troll post. All your mentioned character voice actors in WoW are inferior to the old ones. It’s just a fact. Out of all the things you could hope for, you hope for the stupidest thing.
Two things: or you are a troll or you are really clueless of what blizzard say in this mounth
Fact? How was it proven?
Alas, they already stated that they will reuse the old voice acting.
I don’t know about that. I think if the WoW voices and War3 voices switched places (so the WoW voices got introduced in the original War3 and the War3 voices got introduced in WoW), the opinion would be the complete opposite.
When the above happens, it’s less of a quality issue and more of a nostalgia issue. Quality analyses are good for progress. Nostalgia analyses are bad for progress.
Granted I can’t prove this but based on how people behave on these forums, I have my doubts.
It’s a mixed bag, I’d say most voices from WC3 are superior but there are exceptions.
I’d say a lot of the generic unit voice acting could do with the polish… but I’m struggling to think of a WoW voice I prefer over the old ones in terms of plot relevant characters.
For most though, it’s a fairly close call except Kel’Thuzad where its night and day, the old one is sooooooo much better than the guy they used in WotLK… course that was cus they moved KT’s voice actor onto the Lich King role and didn’t want him conversing with himself. In Hearthstone and Heroes of the Storm they moved back to the OG KT voice.
I’d say most of the WC3 voices for story characters however are just iconic and the WoW voice cast was modeled after them.
Nazgrell is kind of bland and generic… does he have a unique WoW actor?
I guess Gul’dan’s WoW voice for AU Gul’dan as we see him in WoD and Legion is an upgrade over WC3… thought that’s maybe a taste thing.
WC3 he sounds a bit too much like other orcs… but that also humanises… or I guess orcises him a bit more. The WoW and Heroes version is heavier, more gravitas, more epic… but you do lose some of his orcanity. So I can’t call it a straight upgrade.
Anyway… I feel they did a great job back in 2002 of nailing a core set of voices and I have disliked most of the changes from then.
But there’s a lot of generic unit voicework I’d love to have upgraded.
The Batrider comes to mind, the headhunter, Nazgrell, Centaurs should get actual voice lines beyond just grunts, same goes for quilboars and harpies…

And people who play mostly WoW won’t have a bias no? It’s the nostalgic ofc. Except I was never against improving/changing the game where it lacks.
I can see that word triggers a lot of people. It’s a fact because most of those voice actors were sacked for cheaper ones. The voice actor for Arthas for example, was offered a much lower pay than in WC3 for WoW, so he declined the offer.
Now here’s my opinion part, the voice acting is soulless, including on the new Reforged models. It’d be nice if they re-record the entirety of the voices for multiplayer, just to see how many people actually play with those.
From one side old actors could indeed get higher payments but I am not sure it is important. After all, it is the market that dictates the price. It is possible that Blizzard in 2003 had Veblen effect.
On favour of WoW voice acting, it will most likely have higher sound quality. Technology has improved for 20 years, after all.
It’s not about higher payments though. They’re getting lower payments than their original agreed ones. If you had a job, and your boss approached you saying you’re doing good work but starting tomorrow we’re paying you much less. Would you keep working?
Or it is possible if we apply Occam’s razor, we can simply see that Blizzard has been penny-pinching ever since, playing it safe.
Perhaps it did improve, not to a noticeable degree to see the difference however. Lots of sound techniques have fallen out of practice for voice acting too for example echo chambers.
