I did end up doing that. Specifically mentioned it to the support staff. Since there was the special refund policy in place at the time (I think it’s still there actually, as I refunded the game 9 months ago during it’s first sale) you can get the refund anytime you want, no questions asked.

EDIT: Sadly it looks like the refund policy has now been rescinded. From what I understand, it no longer applies. Instead we have the regular policy to contend with.

That policy is no longer in place, but all refunds are still considered on a case by case basis.

Be aware that refunding then buying on sale was one of the specific reasons they never put the game on sale for years. Don’t give them a reason stop offering sales.
