Random severe FPS drop

Regardless of what map I test through the World Editor, it feels like I have a 50% chance having my FPS cratering from ~101 FPS down to 3-9 FPS.
The framerate does not recover unless I close out of Warcraft III and re-launch the map.

This happens both on large maps with many units and doodads, and small test maps with no doodads and only the starting Town Hall + 5 workers.

If launched directly through Warcraft III (not the World Editor) these very same maps will run buttery smooth for up to an hour.
Testing them through the World Editor, or God forbid I tab out and back in, the FPS will freak-out and break down within 10-15 seconds. (it varies)

I have the same issue and it’s bothersome

Is this still an issue on PTR? If so, can you reproduce the issue then use the cheat “howsmydriving”, and tell me what timings it shows on the screen? What hardware are you running on?

This is on the current system.

PTR patch don’t indicate any type of frame rate improvement system implemented.

PTR adds the new “howsmydriving” cheat. Having the performance numbers from that can help narrow down where the issue is.

I guess I didn’t see that added in the patch notes.

Can you link it to me?

I’ll see if I can launch the World Editor through the PTR tomorrow. :+1:

I didn’t know that command was a thing;
I mainly keep track of my performance through that setting that shows your FPS in yellow text below/to-the-left of the Day/Night orb.

*Edit
It’s tomorrow!

(PTR v3.0.0.24295)
Attempting to launch the PTR’s World Editor or the Game itself through either the Launcher or the .exes inside “C:\Program Files (x86)\Warcraft III_ptr_\x86_64” gives me two back-to-back errors:

  • Warcraft III Error:
Game data is unable to load and must be repaired. Please run the Blizzard app to repair the game. If the problem persists, try reinstalling the game.

  • This folder doesn’t contain the correct version of this game. Please check the installation path and try again.
    [ OK ]

Running “Scan & Repair” failed to repair the PTR, attempting to launch either the World Editor or the Game itself still returns the two errors above.

Downloading the PTR has also given me a second installation of WC3 called “Legacy” (v1.29.2.9231) which loads instantly and performs insanely well, but understandably can’t see/load any maps with Reforged Team Colours or Player-Slots.
