Is it possible we will see an increase of hero skills above 5?

You can already make skills go above 5 in custom maps I believe. Though you will require some “spellbook” type stuff to make it happen, which makes it tricky to access quickly.
A spellbook doesn’t quite fit what the op is requesting. Yes, you can put multiple spells in a spellbook with levels (different versions of each spell for each level), but all of them get upgraded together as one skill, not individually.
With some scripting you can make an upgrade system for individual spells - I’m imagining it like this: Each possibly permutation of abilities and levels between them is their own separate spellbook that gets swapped as the player selects the appropriate upgrade, which then replaces their current spellbook with the new version that has the matching upgrades, giving the illusion that you’ve upgraded an individual spell within the spellbook rather than throwing away the old book and grabbing a better one from the shelf.
Of course, if there’s better ways to do what OP wants, while still keeping with the limited grid space in the command card, that’s great.
This seems like a “Custom Games” topic.
I am certain that this would require engine changes, or something needlessly complex like BrotherRoga proposed.
