There is a saying: “What costs nothing isn’t worth anything.”
Warcraft 3’s biggest issue (especially) in team games isn’t balance - it’s the toxic players who ruin matches by teamkilling, AFKing on purpose, or constantly join/leaving, etc. These players often seem to have unlimited free time and no real stakes in the game, making it easy for them to troll endlessly and without consequence.
Since most of the player base is now far over 25-30+ years old with real jobs but scarce leisure time, I propose a reasonable subscription fee between $10-20/month. Such a fee wouldn’t be an issue for serious players. And here’s how it would help to tackle the issue:
Filters out/reduces trolls – A paywall discourages freeloaders who have nothing to lose, leaving only those genuinely invested.
Supports a real reporting system – With steady funding, Blizzard could implement an effective report/ban system.
Accountability through payment info – Banned players couldn’t just create endless (nearly) free accounts.
Funds better servers and future updates – More revenue means better infrastructure and game improvements.
Helps to foster a better community by reducing disruptive behaviour and hence build a more dedicated, mature, and enjoyable community.
A subscription model wouldn’t just keep the game alive—it would make it better for everyone who truly cares about it. Would you support this?
Yea I’m sure everyone who plays this old game is totally ok with that and wouldn’t all move to w3c XD. Then you wont have to worry about leavers at all you just may never find a match XD
It’s not all about more money. It’s about deprioritizing the old in favor of the new.
SC2 being the premier RTS, meaning larger than WC3 in playership, recognition, esports, etc, has been retired with no re-up in sight. It’s not even getting periodic patches like WC3 is.
If SC2 isn’t getting new monetization attention, WC3 surely isn’t going to.
war3champions isn’t a solution. The game should just work properly. We only have W3C because it doesn’t. And even then, because W3C is mainly used by community regulars, the standard of play is much higher and regular joes are not going to have a good time there. So we need the official system to be fixed.
No and you know why?
Because Global Economy is down, automotive and other markets. Also war and epidemics were not good. Now mostly Chinese market could still afford subscription based games but they not even allowed to buy this game (politics or whatever happened there).
Plus there are other newer and better games, much more attractive, so competition is High.
Think for example how successful is War3 Rumble compared to competitors…
So if you want to ruin War3, go make it subscription based, then you will see the results (50 to max 100 subscriptions).
