There is already a few obfuscated workarounds that would allow achieving MS over 522, however it would be very nice to just be able to get higher max MS in gameplay constants. It shouldn’t affect existing maps/melee either, because all the maps have some other max MS limit set (which is set at 400 by default), and such a change shouldn’t break/affect existing maps in any negative way regardless.

There is a field for this already. You can just change it in any custom map.
You indeed can set it over 522 if you press shift+click, but it still going to get capped at 522, because apparently its hardcoded somewhere else and its, unfortunately, impossible to change via default editor without looking for workarounds.
Maximum unit & building speeds can be found in “Gameplay Constants”. To get to it, open the map in the editor, click on the “Advanced” file menu, and click “Gameplay Constants” to open the dialog.
