Played warcraft 1, 2, and 3 in my youth. Such memorable games! Played warcradt 3 for almost a decade with dota and tower defense map mods.
My biggest frustration playing ranked in warcraft 3 was the the paladin couldnt keep up with a group of knights running long distances across the map on raiding missions. This limited their usability together even though they have very good synergy with the high armor, resurrect, and healing.
From a lore perpective it didnt make sense to me that in warcraft 2 paladins were upgraded knights and had horses but somehow lost them in warcraft 3.
Obviously adding horses would be a movespeed buff, but I read that some balance changes are being made as well. From what i remeber, and froma quick seach, paladin is typically the least used human hero so i dont think it would be a meta breaking buff.
Anyway, VERY hyped for warcraft 3 reforged.

Perhaps they could use the Garithos as a skin for Paladin. I think he even had 3 of the 4 paladin abilities so it would make sense to give Paladins this skin. Also i remember that they increased paladin speed in 1.28 or 1.29 but i’m not sure it is enough to match that of a knight.
I would’ve loved if Blizzard introduced Garithos and other Campaign heroes to the tavern…but he didnt get this much love and its probably too late for this as it would ruin the “15 years of balance”
That could be cool. I don’t think they are concerned with ruining 15 years of balance as the front page of warcraft 3 reforged says:
Rebalanced Gameplay
We’re making hundreds of balance changes to heroes, units, and buildings to bring Warcraft III’s classic gameplay into the modern age.
Changing a weaker heroes move speed and adding a mount sounds in line with that.

First of all, its not the horse that grants additional speed. if the devs wanted to increase the speed of the paladin they could do that without adding a horse, but that would be imbalanced… its these kind of “silly little” changes that are completely unnecessary
Knights are supposed to be faster units, thats how they were designed (unlike abombs or taurens) thats part ofthe balance and charm of the game, its not like in wc2 where all units were identical (ogre/knight, footman/grunt)
Increasing a heros speed would be a huge change to balance and since blizzard has already been tweaking balance, I dont think they are going to be increasing the paladins speed
Wc3 doesnt need to be changed just to match with the crappy lore, that would ruin the game… let wc3 be what it is please stop changing balance just because it matches lore, balancing the game for competitive play is much more important
@wc3tutor I agree with you here, but your arguments are ridiculously crappy.
“thats part ofthe balance and charm of the game, its not WoW” - As if WoW doesn’t have its charm or balance.
“Increasing a heros speed would be a huge change to balance” - No, it wouldn’t be. A fast-running pala is a fast-moving trashcan of a hero.
“since blizzard has already been tweaking balance, I dont think they are going to be increasing the paladins speed” - Some weird logic, I’d say, it’s more probable.
@OP I would suggest a counter-argument from the realm of aesthetics. I think that mounted heroes’ animations suffer, and the paladin’s animations are way too iconic to be changed. The Archmage is an old frail man, the Far Seer rides a wolf, the Death Knight is a knight, the Keeper is a stag… Paladin needs no horse!
A paladin thats as fast as a knight would be ridiculously fast when you add boots of speed, and the paladin is not a trashcan of a hero. I know UD would flip out if paladin became a much faster hero
The OP isnt asking for balances to competitive play, hes asking for cosmetic changes to make the game look more like WC2 but thats not how balance works. Maybe he doesnt realize how the “unit formation” button works?
As for adding a horse/skin… who knows maybe there will be a mounted paladin skin released at a later point in time, but it should not and will not effect the heros speed, but they would have to completely redo his sizing
Its just a different style of game with different gameplay mechanics that should not be transferred over to wc3 (at least not for competitive ladder)

You’re not making much sense @Adûnâi
The whole premise of this thread is just crazy. The paladin should get a horse and run as fast as a knight just because??? Like what are we even talking about here?
Of course changing movespeed is a huge balance change, that’s crazy to suggest otherwise. Movespeed is one of the biggest changes a unit can receive.
Why don’t we make Mountain King able to throw storm bolts across the entire map globally because he’s really strong and the strongest dwarf should be able to throw hammers that far…
I swear man I really wonder about some of these totally random “Let’s change all of Warcraft III just because!!!” threads.
To be honest, with all the new cosmetical changes they’re making, such as giving heroes different skins it would be nice to have a Paladin on a horse skin. As long as it’s purely cosmetical, I don’t have an issue with it.
When i hear all this exageration “Paladin speed buff would make the game unbalanced”…As if 20 ms to the paladin woud give humans 75% winrate.
Tauren chieftain gets 30% movespead not only to his own 300 ms but he also gives to all orc units and Heroes. Fun fact: i’ve seen games where players dont even get a second hero in late game and they still win.
I’ve seen games where even undead dont get death knight and they still win.
I’ve seen games where players dont buy boots and they win. Please stop exagerating. Paladin sucks as a lot of other heroes do. Humans would still always get Archemage in every game even if he had same speed as paladin, and thats because of his spells.
These so called “veterans” cry so much about balance but warcraft was never truly balanced. All these veterans play as archemages and deathknights because they are OP compared to all the other heroes and neutralize each other. All the stuff that is not balanced is usualy ignored.
To be clear most heroes with horses have a movespeed of 320. Eg deathknight archmage keeper of the grove all move at 320. Paladin and most un-mounted heroes (litch, mountain king, dreadlord, etc) are 270. Knights are 350 for reference. Not proposing a 350 speed buff just something in line with other horse heroes like arch mage (320) who can keep up with knights for the most part.
I do know about the formation toggle but it doesn’t allow a paladin to keep up with a group of knights when chasing or raiding. The knights basically slow down to the speed of the paladin.
There are also not a lot of human strategies that take advantage of the knights move speed so I thought this would open up the strategy book a bit. I dont think it would break the balance of the game given they are changing a bunch of other things and the hero is underused.
