The Reforged assets have more realistic shading in contrary to Classic WarCraft3, which has more of a colorful comic-look. The 2.0 terrain textures bring back this comic look, which may look fine in MP maps, however it results in artistic inconsistencies that mixes Reforge buildings with colorful terrain.
This is especially a problem for custom campaigns such as “Chronicles of the Second War”, which added additional terrain assets based on the Reforge terrain design, which no longer fits together (e.g. custom realistic brownish rocks now sit atop of comic-like blueish terrain textures).
Edit: A Hotfix seem to have made old Reforge terrain available in the WE, custom maps/campaigns like CotSW would just need to implement them now. But I still would like it as an official option for the main campaigns as well.
2.0 also broke other mods, due to changes in assets from the World Editor afaik. Maps like Legion TD now have invisible units and buildings.
WarCraft 3 Reforged 2.1 needs to add the following to fix this (and more):
- A third terrain option to choose that allows pre-2.0 Reforge terrain
- Compatibility modes for older maps and campaigns, in future maybe even further backwards-compatibility (e.g. I heard about at some point player count was raised from 12 to 24 changing the WE index for neutral units. If this was not fixed for old-map compatibility, you could do so in the future)
- For the Ingame-UI, allow us to align event-text (subtitles, mission objectives, tipps, unlock announcements that are currently displayed in the middle of the screen) to the left, as well as the lower mini map- and unit-control UI (maybe even split it to both sides). It is important for a better gameplay experience, even in MP, since UI and gameplay need a proper separation, not overlay the action (older resolutions in 4:3 had less space to do so).
- A resized campaign selection with smaller than screen-sized bulky books and all 9 chapters being visible at once (with a bookshelf-background frame to fill the space)
- As it was already announced, switchable CL/RF sound packs were added for units. But it should also be possible for the the campaign (afaik Reforge changed some voice actors) and include multi-language if you installed more than one.
- If possible, a.o. for older CPU systems like mine (2015 intel Skylake), improved loading of the main menu assets (graphical elements like sliders, textures and the 3D background).
