Performance of W3 Reforged on new M1 Macbooks?

How well does W3 Reforged perform on the new M1-powered Macbooks?

I hear they’re quite fast, but will they be able to cope with the opening menu page of W3, which takes over ten minutes to draw on any system I’ve tried Reforged on?

(Game is fine, but you never get to the game, and give up waiting for menus to work.)

itll be a software issue in the first place.

if it runs like it should, you can expect performance around a midrange notebook with no dedicated gpu, which should be ok for classic graphics.

question is: does it run though?

10minutes? What machines did you try it on?
It takes me less than 20seconds from opening battlenet to being in-game building an altar.

If the AS CPUs are any good will only show when they are out. I think they will be overprized for the performance they deliver and shipping this on a hardware that can’t even run Photoshop, people opt-in for a very expansive beta test IMO.

Also Apple latest OS updates were highly killing compatibility like dropping 32bit and closing the door for software devs. even further.

SeCuRiTy.

It’s likely you get to run wc3 on it but good luck with w3c or w3booster

Did you try it on a PTR? On my old MacbookPro this works while the regular version doesn’t work at all

Doesn’t make any sense. Try scan& repair your installation.

If you ever pass the BlizzardBrowser, ther rest is fine…

it could be difficult. those does not have intel or amd based technology but entirely apple based technology. the developers would need to modify the executable to run on it. possibly. they will likely also have the most up to date os and that might also be incompatible. to make matters worse: you would not be able to install windows.

I’m trying to play W3 Reforged on an Asus X102BA and a Toshiba Satellite.

They’re both far more powerful than what the game requires as a minimum, are fully supported by Windows 10. The game plays fine - when you get to it. But that’s the game, not the incredibly slow, memory hogging menu system that you have to get through to play the game.

I miss the old startscreen, which was better animated, and so snappy.

Bumping this up… Also really curious if anyone has played reforge (classic gfx) on the new macbook pro 13" with M1 chip… It’s literally the only question I have before pulling the trigger on buying one

I have a M1 Mac Mini, 16GB Ram 512GB and tried Reforged.
Menu is laggy as hell, I heard this is very common to all macs, but ingame works just fine. I have only tried classic graphics, don’t remember the fps asap, but I can try tomorrow reforged graphics and classic and see if fps are just fine.
Edit: W3Champions also works fine

Awesome, thank you!

Yes played it on my Air M1 no problem with it, played on 1600x… on high. Works fine for me, or go with the medium, and it’s perfect.

I’m wondering why the Menu is lagging. Ingame it works fine for me, too. But I am not surprised about that: even my old “white” Macbook was able to run Warcraft 3 perfectly.

I am trying to running WC3 reforged on a MacBook Pro M1 max (so 64GB version) and unfortunately it is not playable. Some things I noticed:

  • No matter what settings I use, the maximum frame rate will never be more than 60 FPS
  • It is also pretty much impossible to drop the frame rate below 60 FPS. Even on a very high resolution with max settings, the M1 Max can easily handle it.
  • the reason the game is unplayable, is because of input lag. Graphics are great but it’s like playing on 400 ms ping, even in single player mode. I assume this lag has to do with the Rosetta translation layer.

So basically, if I want to be able to play WC3, I have to buy another PC or Mac.

I imagine there may be some way to resolve that, or at least make it not as bad. But its a new archetecture made and released after the game, so there was no way of assuring compatibility.

Works smooth with 60 fps - MacBook Pro 13 M1 2020 .

I’ve got a M1-max. The menus are couple frames per second, but the game runs without issue at max resolution.

Hi. You play on max resolution and high settings? Nearby 60 fps, or 100-120? And what about noise of fan?
