Performance obliterated 2.0.1.22498 [POSSIBLE FIX]

Latest 2.0.1.22498 update completely obliterated performance on my machine. FPS drops to single digits even in the first prologue mission. Just how incompetent people working on this game are? I was getting stable 120 FPS at 4K with reforged graphics.
Win 10, 5700X3D, RTX 4080.

[POSSIBLE FIX]
What you really can do to fix performance problems is to play with core affinity. There is one or multiple “bad” cores you need to disable to improve performance. You can find these “bad” cores by first disabling them all and then by enabling them one by one while monitoring performance with MSI Afterburner. Start by just disabling the core that is stressed the most, maybe it will be enough. You will have to do it every time you launch the game, and the “bad” core might be different from the last time. Good luck.
You can disable cores in the Task Manager - Details - Warcraft III.exe - (Right Click) - Set Affinity.

P.S. I have disabled SMT (Hyperthreading) in BIOS to limit the number of variables (from 16 to 8). And in my limited testing it was just the first core (CPU 0) that was killing the performance and needed to be disabled. With SMT enabled it was 3 - 4 cores that needed disabling.

P.P.S I have just completed Human campaign without any performance issues. Stable 120 FPS at 4K. Disabling core works, at least for me. I hope it will help you too.

Please see the tech support section. it’s funny how we have these other forum sections that never seem to come in handy.

Since Version 2.0.1.x the game has been inexplicably choosing to use the integrated graphics found on newer AMD CPUs as well as many laptops. If this is what has happened, a simple proceedure may restore your FPS to normal:

  1. Open Device Manager (win11: hit windows key type Device Manager and hit enter)
  2. Click the + next to “Display Adapters”
  3. if it’s a modern AMD CPU, look for “AMD Radeon™ Graphics,” or some other graphics device that isn’t the graphics card in your system
  4. right click on it and click “Disable Device,” and click OK on the warning that pops up.

If this does not work, you may find success by clicking the gear icon next to the Play button for the game, checking the box “Additional command line arguments” and typing

-graphicsapi direct3d12

into the text box and clicking Done.

If neither of these things helps, please make a thread in Techncial Support, and include a copy of your system information as obtained by typing dxdiag into the startmenu and hitting enter, then clicking “save all information…”

Copy the contents of the resulting text file into a site like Pastebin and link to it in your thread.

I second that. FPS has dropped dramatically and not only that - it has become unstable ( spikes/jitters) with huge spike every 4-5 second which presents itself with minifreeze. I use MSI Afterburner Rivatuner’s frametime linegraph and it used to be somewhat smooth. Performance was already greatly affected by the release of WC 3 Remastered but the aformentioned patch has really dragged FPS to the gutter, being borderline unplayable. I have Windows 10, AMD Ryzen 5800X3D and AMD Radeon RX 7700 XT. Similar kind of thing was happening when WC3 Reforged was launched back in the day and it took a while for the development team to smoothen things out. I have seen couple of posts in the past stating that it might only be AMD Ryzen issue but i cannot be 100% certain.

The FPS problem seems to be across the board ( in custom games - tower defence, dota etc. and ladder) and game feels very stuttery which makes micromanaging difficult and takes away from the overall enjoyment.

If there are any other users out there with similar issues please come forward so we can draw attention to it. I understand we are in the holiday season but hopefully at the start of 2025 things will get sorted out.

P.S. I have tried the things @Captainjack suggested and it did not help.

There’s already about 100 threads about FPS issues and attention has been drawn.

Please do as I said and post a thread in the tech support forum with your system information as I described, that we may find any patterns in hardware or software between the players affected.

I’m not sure what relevance this has to anything.

Even if Blizzard doesn’t respond, other people can work together to identify the problem, which is one of the reasons the tech support forum exists.

BTW: You might have to differentiate between dez 24 update and the dez 23 update. Because they both have the new version number (.22498). In other words there was an update at ~dez 24 (or 26) which certainly changed smth special causing the fps stuff, but the number .22498 already a patch on monday ~dez 23.
Just trying to help with clarifications (and a little bit showing what I noticed)

[Edit: removed 25]

There was no update on the 25th (there is no one working that day, so no one could push a new version)

However, the game updated twice for me on the 24th.
