I mean you’re making my point for me.
Modders don’t have deadlines, they don’t have money riding on the line, they are given a pass for quality control because they aren’t being paid.
I’m not knocking modders capabilities, I’m saying that transitioning from modder to proper dev man takes time, you acknowledge that yourself in the later half of your post.
I agree 100% that the project was likely rushed. It also sounds like project management took a very hands off aproach which meant some elements didnt gel as well as others.
I don’t take issue with modders being hired to become devs. If anything I support it. My complaint is that blizzard decided to leave the quality control at home. Which was stated as such by one of the devs in an interview at blizzcon. Given that these guys were modders previously, quality control was not going to be high on their list of issues by nature (which I am not blaming them for, its part of that transition). Hince, the release felt like that on an unpaid mod made by modders, not a blizzard polished product.

… actually come to that.
What ARE the changes between the various difficulty levels?
Vague memories that in ROC and TFT the difficulty is mostly felt in how bases are built and how many resources you can gather. maybe some of the heroes AI would use different moves at different speeds.
… does Story, Normal, Hard even have any differences in FK?
I didn’t check actual damage or health numbers, but it feels like enemies in Normal have 50% more health and deal 50% more damage over Story mode. It’s a huge difference. I didn’t even try Hard because my dudes got completely wiped out in the throne room in the first prologue mission on Normal.
In the second prologue mission on Normal, there’s an enemy hero who keeps spawning more and more mobs faster than you can kill them. And he’s got a lot of health himself. I tried focusing him down as quickly as possible and managed to barely kill him, but it cost me all of my non-hero dudes and I wasn’t able to progress the mission with only 2 heroes - they were too weak even against small trash mob packs.
How can the second prologue mission be that hard on Normal? I don’t think anyone actually play-tested the game with this recent difficulty change.
And btw, I do smash all crates and collect potions and scrolls. And I do use them. Not optimally for sure, but I’m not a completely braindead noob.

I do not know if it is consistent with every mission, but the Dev interviewed at Blizzcon said they went with increasing health and damage of enemies (and potentially upgrades) as opposed to adding or removing enemies.
And while I can understand the reasoning (it makes you feel proportionally stronger/weaker) I hate it as a difficulty slider because for most fights they do not become more challenging as the way you beat them is the same, it just takes longer and makes you go slower.
