OMG! I can go back to Classic TFT now. Everyone Come read! :D :)

yea, lets meet at channel: public chat

big bump for big [post

show me their feet

Yes you can

Ladder works just sometimes people don’t play it I like like 7-2 on ptr on ladder 1v1

Thank you! I have been trying to find that! In my case it was in:

c:\ProgramData\Blizzard Entertainment\Warcraft III Public Test\

and the file was: roc.w3k

Strangely, last time I registered my keys for the public test, it only took my RoC key and didn’t ask for the TFT one. But I can still play TFT on the PTR, go figure.

I was going mad trying to find where the key is hidden so I don’t have to re-enter it again and again. I searched the registry, and everywhere else I could think of. Used to be, the key was embedded in the game files, and the game was more portable.

Now, I wonder how long it will be the PTR is sacked and you can’t even download this version …

It doesn’t matter; you (and everybody else who has read this thread) will already have downloaded it, and will know not to update to the new version.

Yeah we can use the client, but what happens when they shut down the server? All we would have is the latest working version of the original game, but no way to connect …

WC3 Connect, or Game Ranger, or some other service like that, and run online matches as LAN.

Update: I discovered that the same roc.w3k can be transplanted into the game executable directory to launch the game, e.g.:
c:\Games\Warcraft III Public Test\x86_64
or c:\Games\Warcraft III Public Test\x86\

(It works with either executable.) … And the game launches without asking for the CD-key! Tho it also checks this dir or creates an empty dir if no files are there:
c:\ProgramData\Blizzard Entertainment\Warcraft III Public Test\

… Boom! The game is portable once more!

Some observations: I don’t know why, but my system only accepts roc.w3k key and not the tft.w3k key. I even made a tft.w3k file with my legit TFT key and it didn’t make any difference. With just roc.w3k my game starts off in the ROC menu. With both keys, the game still starts off in the ROC menu. With just a TFT key, the game prompts me for a CD key like it’s not there (even if it’s in the ProgramData folder). Oddly though, if rename roc.w3k to tft.w3k the game starts, but then it says invalid key and quits (from the ROC menu.

Regardless, the legit ROC key in the roc.w3k file in either executable directory runs the game with no prompt for a CD-key, so it can presumably be copied to a USB or a disk like that and ported to another computer (or saved and returned to the same comp) without all the installation nonsense!

(If you want to create your own key file and control where it’s installed, just copy your ROC key into a text file ~ without the dashes! ~ and name it roc.w3k. Or, I guess copy your TFT key into tft.w3k, but like I said, that didn’t work for me.)

FWIW, the Public Test client seems to be fully functional, but I still haven’t been able to test LAN because when I try to use LAN the game always says “Bonjour is required for full lan functionality. Would you like to activate Bonjour?”

WTF is Bonjour? I read about it, but it sounds like spyware to me. Can anybody verify if LAN works, or if Bonjour won’t break my computer?

Hero… A true hero!!

when blizzard actived reforge, they should have made sure reforge is better than tft. otherwise, that sucks too much. reforge is not fully finished, it comes out too rush.
Less ppl on PTR now… sigh

Bonjour is safe, it is just a file transfer protocol started out on mac but it is used in windows mainly to allow computers to share files and resources between one another without much user intervention, it can also be used for network discovery for p2p network play. It is 100 percent safe.

anyways OS X Catalonia needs a specific patch to actually not all of us are on windows hence why I advised as such. You need 1.3.x patch and or the PTR patch for OS X as Apple dropped Open Gl support and the game runs on metal now.

new patch is out, but still no profile, no records, no friend list. still auto jumps into general channel. i also dont like the chat window, a lot of spaces are wasted.

I have been trying to track down a site to download the patches. My disc copy is version 1.07. Sites I have found don’t appear to have download links for 1.10 which would be the next patch in sequence iirc.

h ttps://web.archive.org/web/20140908012427/h ttp://ftp.blizzard.com/pub/war3x/patches/

Just grab the TFT 1xxxx to 1.26 after that you can go here

h ttps://community.pcgamingwiki.com/files/file/1180-warcraft-3-standalone-patches-all-languages-windows/

They also have mac patches as well too enjoy.
fix the space between H

Sadly those links seem to be broken. Even after removing the space.

Ok so what you need to do is copy and paste them into a text document, then first link fix the https: then in the second part it is http: not h ttp then paste.

The second link works just fine if you fix the h ttp part to http://

Hope that helps.

I get a message “failed to authenticate” every time. Guess I’m stuck with Reforged…
