Non-hero build?

Is there a build that doesn’t need heroes and have a chance against heroes. Just getting tired of trying to build some army and it gets wiped and over powered by hero forced games. I have nothing against them please don’t get me wrong but mine always seem to die before they can get away or I’m doing everything I can to level them up only to forget about my base to keep up with that. In doing so I feel like I am moving too slow and end up because a hero some how got like 3 or four levels higher then my own. Any suggestions?

You always want a hero, but if not what you’re looking at are cheese builds like Tower Rush or mass Steam Tanks.

Any non-hero build would be non-standard play and has to rely on effective kill strats, otherwise you’re missing out on the primary resource of the game - EXP.

The better alternative is to practice your micromanagement and keeping your hero alive. What might help is playing some custom maps where you just control one hero. They might seem very different gameplay-wise, but you will have a better understanding of how much punishment a hero can get before you should retreat or how fast your hero can move to know when it is safe to escape and when it’s better to continue engaging and put pressure on your opponent.

Also, if you are having trouble matching your opponent then it may be because you are not aggressive enough. You should be creeping the map or harassing the enemy early to get worker kills to hinder your opponent and gain more EXP. Watching some pro plays might help with this, or even youtubing up some basic strategy videos.

As it stands I ca only do verses mode, no customs yet. At lest the last I checked sense it is still beta. Still I have tried that swell, seen how others done it and try copying them but still no dice. I make my army with the hero, was playing night elf a few times and try doing range attacks go in attack then back and cant seem to get too many kills, meanwhile the other heros have lots more levels in the same admot of time I was playing so not sure what I be doing wrong.

If you open up the Editor you can play against AI to practice.

WC3 has a bit of a ‘Rock Paper Scissors’ strategy to it, so ranged units are going to be weak to melee. Also, a big part of strategy is in what hero you are choosing first - not all heroes are equally balanced so it’s not as simple as picking whatever you like and doing well. You would have a harder time picking Priestess of the Moon compared to Keeper of the Grove, for example, just because his abilities are suited better in the 1v1 matchup.

if the enemy is 3 lvl over your hero on the first encounter, you are just bad.
the solution is “git gud”

I was going to say the same thing.

FollowGrubby (the YouTube/Twitch channel) just put out beginner build guides for all 4 races. I highly suggest you either watch the games he plays them out, or reads over them. They’re really informative, and would certainly give you a rough idea of what you should be aiming for at each stage of the game, as well as tricks for each map you play on.

Of course he recommends you deviate, but really the build is a central idea you can use to springboard yourself into the various concepts of how to play the game.

As others have said, I would recommend practice in editor vs ai and watching Grubby’s videos. Multi-tasking is a fundamental part of any rts and it takes time to get comfortable. If it is any consolation, even pros like Grubby will forget to rally his units correctly or miss something. I would say using control groups is a great first step in being able to manage units and buildings at home more easily.

You could start with just using one hero. The first one is practically free so no reason not to get it. Ranged heroes like the farseer or archmage can be easier to manage since they naturally stay in the backline of a fight.

There is no Heroless build. Heroes, not units, are both the point, and the be-all-end-all of WC3.

Open a game without any enemy and train to build things faster to get the build you want while you farm to level your hero. Then train with an easy ai. Use the world editor. To train micro use microtrain_reforged_beta1.0.w3x map. Google it.

i once won by using only frost wyrms.

This is not SC… best you can do is 1 hero builds. For NE w DH or Warden for Orc… who goes 1 hero maybe TC or BM. For UD go DL till lvl 6. For Hu go MK or troll with BM
