My first computer game in the mid 90’s was Warcraft II. When Warcraft III came out I hated the fact that hero management was the majority of combat. I loved SC2 when it came out because it was mostly controlling massive armies, which is what I think Warcraft should have been. I know that’s not going to make it into main game, but at least give us the option for No Heroes in custom games.
It is possible to remove the altar and heroes from custom maps, but I dont think anybody ever has
As a fan and long time player of WC2 online, I would love to see a custom map that adds heroes, creeping, XP, and upkeep, to WC2
I think the biggest problem with war3 and heroes, especially early game, it was just target the hero/hero rushes and basically if you kill the other hero you win. Little or no army management, it was basically just DOTA.
Long after I quit playing I considered it wouldn’t be difficult to give heroes an aura of sorts that linked their health with surrounding troops. Sort of like spirit link. It would boost the power of base defense and encourage the use of heroes as troop commanders as was the original intent. Battles would be more about dismantling and countering an army troop by troop rather than who could better nuke their opponent’s hero. This could go further where melee heroes only share with melee units and range with range units, so you don’t use a lich as a tank for example.
Umm… There is already that option.
