I believe that all races have enough units and buildings and we shouldn’t add new ones, but I always thought that 4 heroes for each each isn’t enough, there is space for 1 or 2 more as there are enough “roles” unfulfilled in each race’s roster. The same applies for the neutral heroes, as long as you add them slowly and check for feedback constantly from the high rated ladder players and the pros, so that you don’t add anything too out of balance. I think it would add a lot more of depth and variety to the melee gameplay if we had more heroes to the game, plus it would be even more fun to the casual players to play the game and try new things. Personally one of the things that wore me out of the game was “having” to go Archmage, MK and paladin almost every game or lose. So, that’s my feedback, I hope you guys consider it for future balance patches in reforged.
I’m not so sure about new heroes for the core races, but I’d love to see more neutral heroes. Perhaps with a random list generated each battle in the tavern to keep things fresh, or to have the available heroes change based on tileset.
My ideas for new heroes
Human
- Human Highlord
Strength, Warrior type. 2h sword. Think Varian in Heroes of the Storm. - Human Marksman
Agility, Ranged Assassin. A human sniper with dual pistols and carries a long rifle on his back. He can mark a target and all ranged attacks have ranged increased by 1 per rank.
Orcs
- Tauren Runemaster
Strength, Bruiser/Damage type. Enhances his own damage with runes, creates traps on the floor to stop enemy movement. - Orc Warlord
Strength, Support type. Mounted on a giant boar, has a charge attack and can warcry to boost ally
Night Elves

ArchDruid
Strength, Warrior type. Has Owlbear form (true owlbear on all 4s, not boomkin) and hybrid spells that deal damage in owlbear form or provides defense buffs in Elf form. -
Dreamwalker
Intelligence, Support type. A green dragon of the Emerald Dream in Elf form. Can hibernate units, causing them to regen health while asleep (invulnerable CC) and phasewalk, basically spiritwalk with increase movespeed and no collision.
Undead

Flesh Giant
Strength, Bruiser. Giant Abomination with a giant hook. Basically Stitches/Pudge in hero form -
Plaguebringer
Intelligence, Human Necromancer who creates pools of poison and slimes that explode after death, spreading disease clouds.
Agreed. I would not mind more neutral heroes. However I am not fan of adding more heroes into core races.
Only thing that kind off was strange to me was dark ranger as neutral hero instead of being undead hero.
I kind of like the idea of a new hero to each core race. I’ve been messing with some ideas that if each playable warcraft race had it’s own tech tree, what would it look like. I also made some trees for some other factions like twilight hammer and argent down. It’s not entirely compete but I have a lot of potential hero ideas from it.
Like a type of dwarf paladin, troll archmage, and some new tavern heroes like tuskarrs or something old god related.
