Source material can come from WOW, for example the “War against the Lich King”. Thoughts?
I think it will be soo great if they keep adding new campaigns with new cutscens etc. And yes i think it should follow WoW story so ppl dont get confused with universe etc.
More campaigns would be great. And fortunately, the Warcraft universe is full of amazing and relevant lore.
The War of the Ancients would be an obvious choice for an extra NE campaign - Blizz could even through in a few missions to tell the story of the Nightborne there, or let you play as Ashara for a mission or two.
We could also revisit Draenor and have an Orc campaign surrounding the founding of the Horde - much like Warlords but without the parallel universe sillyness.
Personally, I would be completely psyched if they also did the WC1 and WC2 campaigns within the reforged WC3 engine, so players could replay those stories as well - but that is probably wishful thinking.
I was just thinking of War of the Ancients as well. You can throw in Xavius as a suped up Satyr custom hero, Azshara herself, Mannoroth, Archimonde and Tichondrius will be there. Hakkar the Houndmaster, Varo’then, Ravencrest, Malorne and all the other Ancients, even Huln Highmountain as a Tauren Chieftain reskin (with moose horns and Talonclaw). And the best part about all this regardless of the quality of the campaign would be the assets we can use in the world editor because of them.
And yeah, redoing Warcraft 1 and 2 as their own campaigns would be pretty awesome as well. That way we can get all the warcraft 2 heroes as their own models as well. All in all, I am more excited for the possibility of new things in Reforged than just the upgrading of graphics and animations (though obviously I’m hyped for that as well).
The ashbringer storyline would be amazing.
I take issue with the houndmaster preferring the non-wow model instead.
Though I am intrigued with the dreadlords connection with shadowlands and their crafting of high end necromantic items, I think our best bet would be war3 campaigns that take place in the blind spots of the wow lore.
For example, right now every famed character and wow player has their attention set on the shadow lands. What people don’t realize is that when sylvanas ripped the helm of domination apart, she freed something.
Remember kil’jaeden bound ner’zhul’s soul to the helm. Even if arthas and ner’zhul became 1, even if ner’zhul’s personality faded, that doesn’t break kil’jaeden’s magic. Remember arthas’s soul was claimed by frostmourne and was possibly released when the sword was broken, but regardless the lich king’s soul is bound to the helm.
So here we are with everyone heading to the shadowlands while the lich king’s soul drifts through Azeroth. Sounds like a war3 campaign.
Partly why they wanted to reforge WC3 was to explain the story to those who only played WoW. There are loads of campaigns that would work to set the stage for WoW, such as:
- Rise of the Horde:- The Orcs fall to the influence of the demons and then clash with the Ogres & Draenei, nearly causing the extinction of the Draenei.
- The First War:- The Horde invades Azeroth. After bitter battles against the humans, Stormwind City is destroyed. Lothar leads the survivors to Lordaeron.
- Tides of Darkness:- The Alliance is created to repel the Horde. Quel’thalas is almost burned, Alterac is destroyed but the Horde is eventually defeated at the cost of Lothar’s life. The Orcs are imprisoned in internment camps
- Beyond the Dark Portal:- Seeking new worlds, Nerzhul enters pacts with various individuals to find a way to open more Dark Portals. The Alliance leads an expedition to Draenor to stop his plan. The campaign ends with Draenor torn apart.
- War of the Spider:- Nerzhul is tormented by demons and turned into the Lich King, while extending his power across Northrend he enters into a ten year war with the Nerubians.
- The Fall of Gnomeregan:- During the Third War the gnomes delve too deeply and unleash the Troggs. The resulting war leads to the loss of their home and most of their people, but they hide their plight from their allies so they could focus on the Scourge menace.
- The Northgate Rebellion:- Civil war in Gilneas at the time of the Third War, at one point Gilneas unleashed the Worgen as a weapon against the Scourge, but it backfired on them.
- The Scarlet Crusade:- After the Third War. With the Scarlet Crusade trying to reconquer Lordearon, Sylvanas is forced to reach out for allies. When her attempts to contact the Alliance fail, she turns to the Horde.
- The Boughs of Teldrassil:- With the war over, the Night Elves become divided about whether to regrow a World Tree, and face renewed aggression from the Warsong Clan. Eventually leads to them joining the Alliance.
- Exodus of the Draenei:- The Draenei fight to escape from Outland, and in the process fight against the Blood Elves.
I’m not expecting any of them, but I’d love to get absolutely any of them added to the game. There’s a huge range of stories that could be told, and they wouldn’t even have to touch the time period of WOW itself.
And in truth, only the campaigns covering Warcraft 1 & 2 would have to be sizable. Most conflicts I mentioned above could be made with short-form campaigns of a similar length to the RoC Prologue.
This topic didn’t really age well. I personally think it was their plan back during Blizzcon 2018 time. However that changed and they basically said that no new Campaigns will be added at Blizzcon 2019, they have said that they will add post launch content, but “not necessarily Campaigns”. To me it seems that the post launch content will be the features Classic had, but they didn’t have enough time or men power to implement them in time for Reforged (e.g. ladder, clans, custom campaigns). I personally would prefer them readding those features, bug fixing, performance optimization and maybe fixing some Campaign inconsistencies to new content anyway.
It’s also worth mentioning that the game wasn’t received quite well, with many people refunding, so I’m pretty certain that every other post launch content has been scrapped by now.
However if they do plan to add new Campaigns (I think chances are one in a billion), this is what I’d like:
-
Fall of Gnomergan, with the Gnomes race and Hero (or Heroes).
-
A Campaign in Uldum, with the Tol’vir and Titanforged, not necessarily as playable, just as enemies and quest givers. (I’m just a sucker for ancient Egyptian stuff)
-
A Campaign featuring the Dragonflights as playable (but not necessarily base building) factions, with adding Dragonspawn and Drakonid of all five flights with the appropriate abilities (red-life, blue-arcane etc…), with a hero of each Dragonflight (like Kalecgos for Blue, Chromie for Bronze etc…) and five Aspects(Alexstrasza, Ysera, Nozodrmu, Malygos and Deathwing) making apperances, but not as playable units, and not necessarily as enemies, but as quest givers or interlude or cinematic roles. (I guess I’m just a sucker for Dragon lore)
I agree. As much scope as there is for new campaigns, I can’t see them making them. Perhaps they’d expand Rexxar’s campaign with additional Acts, but beyond that I can’t see them bothering. They are more likely to go the unit/hero/race skin root as that costs less and still generates strong sales.
I hope I’m wrong though.
I’m sure if they add something new, more new players would join, if they fix the game. they got like 25 books about world of Warcraft, so there is so no need for inspiration.
waiting for any kind of extra content is just delusional
I will be more than happy if we get a campaign that explains how Arthas got the horse.
they made the existing campaigns way worse , and you expecting them to release a new ones? you fool
When they first announced they game they basically said this could be a new era of warcraft, possibly new campaigns, almost a warcraft 3.5.
Sadly, with the rolled back features and horrible launch I have zero hope of this ever happening.
I would pay for it, my brother would pay for it.
I know this is probably not going to happen, but it would be amazing.
I would also pay for this. Come on blizzard, I am an easy customer.
recently game companies have started a 2.0 trend. Basically a game is released in a certain state and within 1-2 years, they try to turn it into a different experience. 2.0.
Examples of this trend are final fantasy 14, rainbow 6 siege, anthem, ghost recon breakpoint, diablo 3, fallout 76, sea of thieves. It’s not successful sometimes.
I think reforged will follow up in 1-2 years with a reforged 2.0. I still count the sc2 assets so I think blizz will try again a 3rd time.
How this relates to the topic is perhaps we will get something in 1-2 years when blizz tries again. Not a positive note to end on as I still view diablo 4 as d3 2.0.
As I’ve said before elsewhere, which i’m sure most of you have seen already. I would like to see new campaigns based on in game lore from the past.
Some based on races already playable in game like Rise of the Horde or War of the Ancients, with maybe a few tweaks. Others will have completely new tech trees just for that campaign like Rise of the Black Empire where you play as the old god’s forces, or the Pandaren Revolution.
From there there would be new tilesets, doodads, creeps, hero units and skins, and other art that can be used to make new online maps.
