Matchmaking system currently broken in 4v4 game mode

Currently the matchmaking system in the 4v4 game mode doesn’t make any sense and highly favours players with 3900 and more MMR (seems to be the breaking point) in terms of team compositions.
The following example of team composition is VERY common recently:

Team 1:
Player A (4300 mmr / 60% winrate)
Player B (4600 mmr / 65% winrate)
Player C (4900 mmr / 70% winrate)
Player D (3900 mmr / 60% winrate)

vs.

Team 2:
Player E (2900 mmr / 40% winrate)
Player F (2700 mmr / 33% winrate)
Player G (3600 mmr / 53% winrate)
Player H (3200 mmr / 35% winrate)

As you can see, the team compositions are extremely unbalanced. The problem is that this is not an exception. Recently, the majority of match-ups are as unbalanced as in my example. Hence, players of team 2 will leave instantaneously when seeing the loading screen with these teams. They then will queue again, but the next match-up will be like the previous. And so on and so on. Mass leaving is now a huge problem. About 6 of 10 games have instant leavers.

Due to that a spiral of “auto losses” and “auto wins” is triggered. Higher MMR players, will just farm a lot of wins effortless, because enemy teams gift the win at start and Lower MMR players won’t be able to lift heads and keep collecting losses, because they will always be confronted with being in the weaker team + maybe having a leaver straight at the start due to the unbalanced team compositions.

It would be great, if the developers could change matchmaking in the 4v4 mode to be more balanced (e.g. 2 high MMR with 2 low MMR etc.).
I saw that you are making adjustments in the latest PTR Patch. However, I can’t see how they are going to really tackle the problem. I think more variables should be considered in the matchmaking formula.
Toxi, one of developers of W3C is a very known expert on this topic. Maybe blizzard/microsoft could reach out to him, since this would benefit all players.

I hope something can be done about it.
Many thanks.

You ofteen hear high-ranked players claim they get bad teams, but most of us know that’s not really true. They just say that to cover up the fact that they enjoy stomping lower-level players. That’s why higher MMR players don’t complain , they like it this way. They can dominate weaker players and then brag on Discord or the forums about not losing a single unit.

The problem is that Blizzard doesn’t seem to recognize this as an issue, because when regular or lower-level players complain about it, someone with a big name shows up in the thread to say it’s not true. But they want it like this. It makes them feel good. This is exactly what happened with Arranged Teams (AT). Some people only wanted AT vs Random Teams (RT) back so they could dominate weaker players again , not because they wanted a fair matchmaking system. If they really cared about fairness, they would have suggested how to make it balanced. But no one did. All they said was, ‘I just want to play with my friends,’ ignoring the problems that come with unfair matchups.

Me and Captain actually came up with ideas to improve matchmaking, like adding timeouts and balance changes — but nothing happened. Honestly, it feels like Blizzard doesn’t want to fix the game. Maybe they want players to get frustrated and quit so they can quietly shut Warcraft 3 down, since it’s not making them money anymore.

Instead of fixing the real problems , like leavers, matchmaking, and giving players something to strive for , they just patch small things and create new problems. If they really wanted to fix the game, they could. Just look at what W3C has done. And if Blizzard couldn’t fix it themselves, they could at least hire people like Toxic and others who are already doing a great job with W3C

I feel like some of the known names in the community , like Lutz and Solo , don’t really care about fixing matchmaking. They’re more interested in keeping things the way they are because it benefits them. They enjoy stomping weaker players, and that’s why they resist changes that would make the system fairer for everyone.

To be fair, I actually respect Lutz for at least being honest about what he wants. He doesn’t pretend. He says outright that he wants to play how he enjoys, even if that means crushing noobs. But with Solo, it’s a big no for me , there’s too much narcissism and not enoough care for the actual balance of the game. It feels like some of these players aren’t interested in improving the system ,they just want to keep their advantage.

thats 90 % everyone at top 100!
