Just wanted to check in and express continued frustration that Mac users still have no map editor. The promotional media pre-release made absolutely no mention that Mac users were excluded for this, which turned this into blatant false advertising at best, and deliberate fraud at worst.
It’s been 8 months and still no updates on that.
It was the only real reason for me buying this game in the first place, tbh.
Was it ever available for Mac at any point in time?
I think the original game supported Mac for a brief time, prior to Reforged releasing. The original game did not used to support Macs, they added that into patch 1.30 but then when Reforged released, the map editor stopped working for Mac users
I dont know if it will be fixed but, Im pretty sure there are other ways to run the map editor if thats your primary goal. Either install another OS like Wine, or try searching thehiveworkshop to see if they have a downloadable version of the map editor
Im also pretty sure you can download an older version of the map editor as well, which should work but it wont be fully up to date (obviously)
I would think Wine is your best option at this current moment in time, unless they fix it in the future but idk
Most old Mac versions of Warcraft 3 are PowerPC applications, which are no longer supported on Mac OS versions passed a certain date somewhere in the 2010s. It’s not at all like on Windows where I can just insert my 2000s CD and play the old version directly.
Yes, the last version of the OS it worked with was 10.6, which came out '09. Had to do with apple finalizing the switch to intel macs. Which now they are moving to a new processor type so that’s going to be annoying later.
