Hello,
I am unable to open the game and get the “unable to initiate graphics” error message, just confirming that my laptop is too old and it is not a settings issue:
MacBook Pro (13-inch, Early 2011)
2,7 GHz Intel Core i7
8 GB 1333 MHz DDR3
Intel HD Graphics 3000 512 MB
Thank you!

The GPU is definitely suspect.
In your System Information, under Hardware>Graphics/Displays, it should display info on your graphics card. Is there an entry for “Metal”? If so, what does it say?
Yes your system is too old. The minimum requirement is a MacBook with an AMD GPU from May 2014, 3 years after your system was made. Pretty much the same as Heroes of the Storm.
One cannot even really blame Blizzard. In order to support future Mac systems they had to migrate to Metal and Apple was kind of lazy with offering good Metal support to their older systems such as the fantastic MacBook Pro 2011.
I suspected as much! Thanks for letting me know.
No one but myself to blame! I play D3 and SC2 on the same computer and have no issues with either, so was just assuming WCIII would not be an issue.
Again, thanks for clarifying!

Actually I’m playing on a MacBook Air mid 2012 with 1,8 GHz Intel Core i5, Intel HD Graphics 4000 and the game is running surprisingly well. Sure I get low FPS, between 40 and 60, but otherwise performance is OK (on SD graphics).
Possibly they updated the drivers for intel integrated graphics of that period. In any case MacBook Pro 2011 also does not run HotS, it was a common complaint on the forum when they moved HotS to Metal.
