Local files

How I should name folder for local files? Cause war3.w3mod doesn’t work.

I think we don’t talk about it because we are all afraid they will take it away and end modding of this game forever.

Take a look at quenching mod or w3champions for an example of how people do it, or at least, I assume they do. I would hesitate to run random EXEs off of the internet, but I think some of those mods include registry information on how to enable the local files.

You don’t understand my question. I know how to enable them in registry.
Please read again my first post.

Are you asking how to use local files to overwrite the default campaign maps with your own? Because that’s also something I want to know. I was able to do it before one of the pre-reforged patches. Haven’t been able to figure it out since.

Local files now go to /_retail_/ folder in your game folder.

So I made some quick edits to the first prologue map and saved it under Warcraft III_retail_\maps\Campaign\reforged\roc and verified in my registry that local files were turned on, but the game still ignores my map and loads the original version of the map.

Did you double check the map file extension? If the ROC maps are .w3m and you try to overwrite them with a .w3x it could be a problem. But I’m just spitballing, didn’t try that yet myself.

I did think of that but it seems Reforged uses .w3x for all of them now.

@JediJoe84 To overwrite any files and add new. However in reforged campaigns are excluded (at least for now).

Download a program called “Casc Viewer”, go inside the folder “ui” you’ll have text files for the campaign maps paths. Edit the paths, make sure to use different names for the map files and put them inside them the “retail” folder, with the correct order of folders as you’ll see in casc viewer.

Example: Warcraft III_retail_\campaign\classic\roc you’ll put the map files here or you can simply change the paths in “war3.w3mod:ui\campaigninfoclassic.txt” or war3.w3mod:ui\campaigninforeforged.txt.

so it stays like this:

Warcraft III_retail_\campaign\classic(or reforged)\roc(or tft)

Warcraft III_retail_\ui <- campaigninfoclassic.txt (or reforged) this file goes here

Also if you plan to fully edit the maps and have items and level carry on through each of them you’ll have to edit every map’s triggers to rename the game cache because it will save to the default campaign cache and it won’t load on your next edited map.

Basically just explore the ui folder in casc viewer.

Thank you all for the participation. Now I know what I wanted.
