Back before Warcraft III switched from the MPQ system to the CASC one, I used to use local files to overwrite the campaign maps so I could play the game with my own little tweaks. I wasn’t able to figure out how to do this after the game switched to the CASC data storage. Has anyone figured out how or if it’s even possible with Reforged?
I tried with the local files registry but it isn’t working. ATM the only way is to use the world editor - I know because I did the same. How about sharing the tweaks?
Sadly I don’t have my old tweaked campaign maps anymore. It was on a previous computer and I had scrapped them in hopes of using these new updated maps. The tweaks I made were simple. Removed the hero experience cap trigger, added attribute bonus to every hero, added an extra level to every hero ability, raised hero level cap to 20, changed each map to use the latest melee patch instead of the default RoC or TFT data. And other small continuity things that blizzard actually fixed in reforged like swapping out darkspear headhunters for amani axe throwers in missions involving warcraft 2 horde clans.
Blizzard switched from MPQ to CASC to almost every of their games.
I expect one can find a CASC viewer/editor easily on Blizzard fan modding websites, such as Hive Workshop for War3.
Oh I’ve had a casc viewer ever since they first introduced the system in WoW. But using local files to overwrite the default campaign maps no longer seems to work.
