In Reforged Campaign, it was visible how characters, for example Arthas and Uther, opened their mouths when voiced dialogues sounded (both in the portrait, in the game model). And how to do it in the editor?
We currently don’t have a way I think.
They cut it from release.
Regrettably. Thnx.
You have to animate them yourself. It is possible, but it’s hard unless you’re an experienced animator. I like this kind of animation a guy named retera does.

Oh, nice, thnx!
Yeah, hey, just to be clear, the animation of that footman cleaning that shield comes with the game. I created that GIF to demonstrate that my model editor was capable of previewing the in-game animation.
My editor tool does support animation editing but to get something looking as good as that footman cleaning his shield you’re going to have to be working on it for a while.
Edit: I was told by someone who supposedly works at Blizzard, in a vague roundabout way, that yes indeed the World Editor that they used to create those animated facial expressions is not included with the World Editor that players have access to.
Even in beta, there was some additional tab in the top panel of the editor. There seemed to be something related to editing animations. And by the way, your program is already something
Thanks for the clarification. Indeed now i’m learning about modeling and animation cause i’ll need some of that custom stuff in my new map and to see if i can help in recreating the cutscenes. Retera do you know any importer for blender that is actually working right now? I have an .mdl exporter to export from blender to warcraft 3 and with that i can only create and animate new models to use in reforged, but i really want to be able to edit models that already exists too. I couldn’t make bitturn work neither other converters that could convert from .mdx/.mdl to .obj for example, so blender could accept these imports. I’ll continue my search for a proper or at least a minimum working converter for that.
As an example of what is possible with blender, here is the simple basic model blender provides, with a simple texture, exported with the .mdl exporter and imported into reforged with it’s light and everything, and the other model is of jill valentine from RE 3, badly texturized since she had so many textures and i’ve just imported 1 cause i just wanted to show you that is possible to import models from blender.

I’m sorry to let you down but I don’t know how to use blender and so I wrote Retera Model Studio instead. I know that sounds completely crazy and not logical but the way we play video games is not always logical.
When I edit models that already exist I can make content like this owl rider:
http s://www.hiveworkshop.com/threads/owl-moon-priestess-reforged.323110/
But the way that I do this is entirely with my own software and with Notepad MDL editing. I could probably write tools for blender if I tried to learn it but after I said that to another guy two months ago I never did anything because my motivation to install blender and care about that is pretty low. Instead, when I had free time and wasnt working on Retera Model Studio updates which I have started to see as community service for other people, for myself I work on writing a game that I will play that will look exactly like Warcraft 3 from 2002, targeting Patch 1.22 assets, and use the MDX and W3X formats that I have come to know well. But I will have the code of this game even if it cannot be published, so then I will play Warcraft in single player where I have better modeling and game modding tools than anyone else and the tools will only work on my computer because Blizzard would not allow publishing them since theyre like a rewrite of the Warcraft 3 game. Rather than learning blender, I’m learning Warcraft 3, you might say.
Rather than making new models, I would use ten thousand old ones from the Hive workshop, perhaps.
Don’t worry I’m having a lot of fun with your studio, i’m using it a lot for many things, even as interface from warcraft 3, to the external world. Importing models from blender with textures, lights and all wouldn’t be possible without your studio. Indeed, with your studio it is already possible to edit models that already exist, it’s just that some external programs make it all faster since i already know them, like blender, that’s why i’ve been looking for some importers/exporters but your studio already let me edit models that already exist.
