Just to get the information out there, if you had linked your old Battle.net account and you randomly lose it Blizzard will refuse flat out to reinstate it. Just had the joy of logging in and noticing my name is no longer my claimed Account name. So I just lost ages of custom map saves.
They can’t reinstate them, because they are long gone. They haven’t existed for several years.
I’m not sure how you “lost ages of custom map saves,” as custom maps and save games are stored locally. Even if they could do what you ask, that wouldn’t bring your maps back if you deleted them.
The only thing linking a classic account (was supposed to but didn’t actually) did was carry over your name and stats from before Reforged came out and thus achievements.
The current version of the game doesn’t even have the mechanism for linking your classic account anymore- that’s how gone they are.
That is the issue, custom map save data is based on the player’s name. When you originally linked your old account they spoofed your name to that old account name on the server you claimed it on. So by losing that my name from my linked account, I lost the ability to use that data.
Yeah that’s the problem with name-based saves. You only have 2 ways to get it back:
- You get the name back somehow.
- You contact the map creator and ask them to change the name for that particular save or do it yourself if you have the know-how.
Both are unlikely.
Yep, tried to get it back through a support ticket and they didn’t even bother posting anything and just posted a boilerplate response for the naming policy. So I just have to assume they’re flat out removing anything in regards to the old accounts.
What exactly are we talking about here then? I’m confused.
Are we talking about multiplayer game saves? Or we’re talking about custom games that saved their own external data (e.g. maps like line tower wars which save stats/ranked rating/etc)
Yeah, unfortunately you’re just going to have to start over on such a map. The way they did the linking was a real hack job- the support was never even fully implemented and probably shouldn’t have been relied upon in the first place.
If it’s the sort of custom game you can play alone you can potentailly still use the data by playing offline and using LAN mode where you can enter a player name. But I’m not sure if that will actually work.
Unfortunately yeah, all they did was spoof your name to your old account name. It did the job I guess, but having it just randomly removed is pretty annoying.
