Let's do the math (patch 1.31)

I just don’t get the math that was done for the new patch.
Let’s compare things:

(1) HU, scroll of regen: 100 gold, heals 225 hp in 45 sec, i.e. 5 hp per sec.

With this rate, 100 hp in 20 sec would cost 100 gold *(100/225) = 44.44 gold. So 2 charges of 100 hp in 20 seconds for HU cost ~ 88.88 gold.

UD, dagger: 125 gold, 2 charges of 100 hp in 45 sec + you have to sacrifice two units! (these have to be skeletons, for which you need a rod, otherwise it is not worth it).

Yes, there is difference between 2 charges (UD) and 1 charge (HU), but still! Who did the math? HOW?

(2) Firelord, soul burn. Mana cost reduced from 85 to 65

  • Level 1: Damage reduced from 125 to 80
  • Level 2: Damage reduced from 270 to 200
  • Level 3: Damage reduced from 450 to 340

If we do computations:
L1: 125* (65/85) = 95.58 >> 80 damage
L2: 270* (65/85) = 206.47 > 200
L3: 450*(65/85) = 344.11 > 340

The Level 1 adjustment is crippling Firelord himself. At least make it 90! Thanks.

firelord

-20mana for -45 dmg
-20mana for -70 dmg
-20mana for -110dmg

if you think about it , level1 pre-update has 125 dmg
now it deals 2/3 of this dmg …
ok i start to tilt now
for about 20mana blizzard take away the 1/3 of the dmg?
fak

20 mana=23.5%
45 damage=36%

It’s not that big of a difference, but I agree, the level 1 Soulburn’s damage should be buffed to 90-95.

And the Dagger’s heal should be instant with a 20 sec CD.

the problem with soulburn is that its just 1 single target (im looking just for the most useful effect: silence) and lasts too short compare to Dark ranger’s silence. Make it at least last slightly longer than dark ranger version (or maybe even better nerf that, but i may be biased here since i hate having my pala silenced and unable to heal UD nukes).

(1) Hmz, the value of t1 healing lies in regen per second? Imo HU scroll heals 225 HP for 100 gold. UD heals 200 HP for 125 gold. I.e. that ratio is 2.25 HP per gold for HU and 1.6 HP per gold for UD. And indeed UD is less flexible as you will need to sacrifice a skeleton or so. Lets leave that out for simplicity and UD healing is about 30% worse than HU healing.

However; you calculate that in a vacuum basically. You leave out a myriad of relevant variables. Healing for HU has always been there. UD now receives a new healing item, which is an option. Incrementally seen; HU receives +0 relative to 1.30. UD receives +200 healing for 100 gold. So UD can be considered on top of this story. UD tend to have other ways to sustain. 4HPregen on blight. Beetles, vamp aura, skellies and coil + unholy aura. All T1 bits HU does not have.

I feel the item was never intended to be equally to other healing items. It was meant to incrementally add on top various play styles to more overly balance early game HP recovery.

(2) Soulburn doesn’t derive its value from damage exerted; but from its silencing ability. Its less impactfull damage wise, but can be casted more often. Creating more dire situations for those invoked with soul burn as they can’t aid their brethren during combat; most reducing damage output directly, or indirectly via heal. Which now can occur more more subsequently in the same time spawn. In addition, it allows to ops for for spawns or incinerate; which in turn will inflict damage as well. To make a fair comparison to prior patch, that should be included. Although that is hard to calculate I guess. Empirically; it is what will happen tough.

Did the silence duration got reduced accordingly to the mana reduce too? No? Then you know why their was more dmg taken away than the mana reduce alone warranted for.
