Hello,
There are many players complaining that their favourite maps are crashing and stuttering! It’s impossible to create custom maps since you must spend countless hours removing POINT leaks otherwise the game will crash and lag for most players. Blizzard must make it so each POINT leak is automatically destroyed when default GUI POINT action is used. (Such as “order unit to attack random point in region”, “create 1 footman at center of region”, “create 1 meat wagon at position of triggering unit”…)
Some custom maps have THOUSANDS of POINT actions, there is no way we will manually click on every POINT in GUI and then create a variable+destroy location for each!
We must have a solution from Blizzard that fixes all maps.
Regards Dani
Maps are crashing because they haven’t been updated since changes were made that affect custom games. Those crashes can be fixed by the map maker. Stuttering can also be fixed by map makers spawning fewer units / placing fewer objects. That’s no one’s fault but the map creator’s for using more objects than the game was designed to handle- which is still true even if the map’s performance today is lower than it was years ago. It’s not up to Blizzard to fix people’s maps.
I’ve played many popular custom games that are still updated today and they don’t have these problems, because their creators updated their maps to address these issues.
Crashing is still happening a lot for everyone! Did Blizzard fix any of the issues that cause memory leaks?:
- Point leaks
- Unit group leaks
- Particle effects leaks
- Sound leaks
- Local variables leaks
- Every unit created memory leaks 0.04kb (hence you must always restart wc3 after you have played a map to prevent crash).
- Terrain deform such as shockwave and thunderclap abilities.
If blizzard is not going to fix the above then do this suggestion: After you have played a map and when players are in scorescreen: Reset and flush all ram memory releated to wc3 except for main menu stuff and chats. So we dont have to manually exit and start the game to reset ram.
We also need optimizations and a minimalist person to start deleting all the unused content and things in object editor such as duplicate items, abilities and units.
I mean, it would be nice if Blizzard fixed these issues, i think the game has been around for so long we forget that the developers of the game can give us a leg up and make mapmaking easier.
The second suggestion you give is also great. But this is a completely foolish idea: We also need optimizations and a minimalist person to start deleting all the unused content and things in object editor such as duplicate items, abilities and units.
There is absolutely no reason to touch object editor ability, item and unit duplication, all of them exist for a reason, and are used.
If you want to optimize the game there are plenty of ways to do it, Blizzard has already given mapmakers a hard time by editting pre existing abilities instead of making a fresh copy. Especially with orb of slow, dont encourage them to the opposite direction.
There’s no reason to delete anything. The more assets available to map makers the better. And i’ve ranted about this many times before but 30GB is not that much today, and if you have a PC that can run the game competently, you should have 30GB to spare. I have half a dozen games on my PC that are 100GB or more, 30GB is basically nothing today, and removing content from the world editor serves no one except a handful of people that can’t be bothered to delete or uninstall some old or unused thing to free up space.
Offering a stripped down version of the game without the reforged assets is very likely to introduce more custom game-related issues and really isn’t as simple as people think. And again, it’s really not that much space today. Even the switch 2 could install several copies of the game (if it were to run on it anyway) in its built in storage.
