Imported WoW Models

Would new World Editor in Warcraft: Reforged also make it easier to import WoW models, compared to how it is currently done? I love making custom campaigns and I use WoW models a lot. I’m not seeing any info on the subject. If someone could shed some light, that would be great.

I’m hoping there will be something to make such a thing easier to do, and then edit with the model editor that’s supposed to be with the world editor coming with.

They promised a model editor. Hopefully such editor will be able to import many standard model formats. In worst case that would mean passing a WoW model through a converter quickly (could even be made drag and drop) and then loading the result in the model editor.

It is unlikely that WoW models will be natively supported due to mechanical differences between WoW and Warcraft III. Specifically WoW models might contain different metadata from what Warcraft III needs.

Thank you all for the input! Yeah I can see where the issues might be comparing what WC3 and WoW have for data.

Hopefully they do and figure out a way to make it easy to convert WoW model formats into MDX using their Model Editor. It will open up so many possibilities for map makers with more models and (hopefully) SFX to use to create some spectacular maps.

Well it is pretty easy at the moment too, I’m kinda inventor of this method (actually just adopted wow retroporting tools to wc3) and it is nearly as easy as drag and drop but some complex models like character bases needs some fixes and stuff which Reforged can actually solve, All Blizzard needs to be honest is checking the tools we use and make them ‘officially’ working.
You can check how to convert wow models easily to wc3 if you wish from this video made by me:
