I think it is unfair for orcs not to have an immune to magic unit, like destroyers UD), dryads (NE), Spellbreakers (HU). Maybe next patch spirit walkers may become immune in spirit form only, but still able to cast spells (not attack, nor being attacked by any kind of damage or spell).
They don’t have an immune to magic because they have an immune to physical instead.
Yea, but spell breakers, dryads and other magic immunes are not taking a massively increased damage from all physical attacks as a trade-off for being magic immune. Magic immunity is just… that, an additional benefit, with no penalties for it. While spirit walkers in spirit form get bbqd by anything that can cast, including units with magic auto-attacks. Basically they are under a constant “banish” debuff, without the move speed reduction. If I was a unit, I’d pick a spell immunity over spirit walk in its current form anyday.
Now if going into spirit form didn’t result in any increase of the received damage from magic attacks, that’d be a different story… But what are the odds of that happening?
I think is not fair that other races cannot cast BloodLust + do not have units like Tauren with 1300 life that are just Pulverize everything!
The main concept is for every race to be able to produce a unit that is immune to all magic spells (chain lightning, breath of fire, cyclone, slow etc). For balance purposes, it would be nice to let orcs have such a unit, just like any other race does. That’s my whole point.
Maybe just allow spirit walkers to attack while in ethereal form? They have magic damage, and can get hit by chimaeras, enemy casters, and anything with the magic attack for an increased damage. Why can’t they shoot back using a magic of their own? I always felt that was a big letdown of otherwise such an awesome unit.
Also if they are granted magic immunity, it should only be in corporeal form. In ethereal form they should continue be killable by the opponent’s magic. Otherwise they’ll become practically invincible. So if enemy hits them heavily with magic, go corporeal form and shoot back. Else if enemy has mostly physical damage, go ethereal.
Magic immune spirit walkers? Are you nuts?
They will become uncounterable. They are already extremely good for what they cost. And no, they shouldn’t be able to attack while in ethereal form. If you banish chimaera, it cannot attack, even though it has magic damage too. The right-click attack is considered a physical attack before the game checks whether the actual damage is magical. So if you are going to allow spirit walkers to attack while ethereal, you’ll need to change banish too to allow the same for banished units, and that is not going to happen, because if it does, it’s going to get exploited the hell out of with the above mentioned chimaeras for starters, but not only
I don’t know, they just still seem like they are missing something… Maybe give them resistant skin? So that at least they have a chance to survive some of the DoT effects, like stun or cripple, because at the moment, they just get shrekt before you can even move them out of harm’s way unless a scroll is used specifically to keep them alive… Also a little side perk of resistant skin is they won’t get possessed, but so can’t dryads and spellbreakers…
That I don’t care about. As long as my destroyers’ effectiveness is not impeded while they are trying to deal with these monsters, I’m happy. As far as I know, magic damage is not reduced by resistant skin, only by hero armor.
Ok let’s make everybody equal like in old games,
than I want for every race someone who can cast bloodlust and spirit link on a hero together with some 1300 hp units.
I didn’t mention attacking in spiritual form, just be magic immune, at least at spiritual form, plus the ability to cast spells (not attacking physically) in spiritual form, such as disenchant, resurrect and spirit link.
As they are now, they are very easily countered by all immune to magic units; dryads, spell brakers and destroyers can physically attack walkers, who cannot even touch all these! Big air units also crash walkers with their magic - piercing damage (gryphons, chimaeras, frost wyrms). Mortar teams and meat wagons also leave no corpse to resurrect with a master walker. So, as you can see, they have many counters…
