First we need balancing patches, then improved/enhanced AI that plays in a realistic manner. Once those things are running smooth, then maybe we can get a few DLCs in the future!
#1. Co-op Story DLC - $30
small Co-op campaigns, 1 for each race (also playable solo single-player)
Several different missions for Commanders mode (like SC2)
#1
A pro treatment of what fans have already done might be nice.
I think your list is a bit long for a 25$ price tag when what you’re suggesting really is in line with TFT in terms of scale. I’d imagine it’d be at least 40$ with such a big feature list, likely even 60$. Or carve this up in smaller chunks.
#2
Extremely unlikely they will ever add a new faction to play, let alone 2.
If they did, it’s again be part of a full-on expansion with many new features because you’d need to include single player content to help flesh out a new faction.
New game modes however seems perfectly reasonable, some altered melee formats or minigames with separate matchmaking like the different ques for hearthstone, SC2, Heroes of the Storm etc.
#3
Again, that’s just straight up an entire expansion similar in scope if not even bigger than TFT.
#4
Why compete with Heroes of the Storm. Just go play that.
Full CGI WC3 movie?! They did a feature length Warcraft film and it wasn’t very good (I mean, I enjoyed it… but it wasn’t very good.)
That would absolutely also just be a cinema release if they did and not a DLC in-game.
You are frighteningly optimistic/underestimating the amount of time and money that goes into the content you suggested.
I’d rather have something new, hopefully users will continue improving the fan-made co-op campaigns with the new map editor features
I think they could at least pull off 1 new race, bringing the total to 5
that’s a funny oxymoron, I agree my pricing might be a little low but I don’t think the DLCs would need to be quite as large as you say, I don’t consider them full expansions in terms of TFT. Maybe if you combined ideas #1 and #2 that’s what I would consider to be equal to TFT. The actual campaigns don’t need to be as big as the ones in the original game. I figured for the co-op campaigns 4-5 decent sized levels could be enough instead of the usually 8-9
Anyway, obviously I have “exaggerated” my hopes a little bit, and I know not to expect every single thing on the list by 2022, I was just putting together a list of ideas, and the parts listed as #4 “bonus” were more of just silly ideas I was throwing in their to complete every possibility
So okay I get it, my expectations are too high and my price estimate is a little low, but lets not say that this is entirely 100% impossible. Well just have to wait for more than a few years to see if Reforged is successful first or not lol
I mean I love most of your #1 and #3 suggestions. But I don’t like your #2 and #4 suggestions.
Especially #4 which is just: Play Heroes of the Storm and/or wait for a new Warcraft feature
2 and 4 don’t make any lick of sense for me, especially for the longterm goal of this game. I disagree with most of the things suggested here, if not all.
1&3 are more feasible, though it’s priced a bit oddly.
Nova Covert Ops should be a template for missions. It was $7.50 per mission pack, with a pre-purch bundle for $15.
$40 is the price of Reforged. I don’t understand why co-op missions and a bit more would rival this. Something is lost in translation here. Even Allied Commanders in SC2 is free to play, with the only thing purchaseable being the Heroes themselves.
Honestly, if I were to ask for DLC content, it would be singleplayer campaigns (ala Rexxar campaign) that introduce new tilesets and new armies into the fold. Stuff like adding in Dark Irons and Molten Core-related assets, or adding in Silithids with a new Sandy desert tileset. IMO campaigns should be there to provide more material and expand on what WC3 originally set the bar with.
Co-op missions is fantastic too, but I see that as being such a long-term goal that I don’t know if it’s feasible. You really need a full dev team to commit to this, just like they did for SC2. Classics team is likely gonna move on to the next game after Reforged, so I’m thinking in terms of providing content that falls in line with the pipeline they already have set for remaking all of WC3 - Simple campaign, more outsourced art, and very little balancing required.
There’s 3 mission packs, so if you bought them individually they would be $22.50 (7.5 x 3). If you pre-purchased the bundle, it would be a flat $15.
You’re not gonna buy the bundle AND extra mission packs, because the bundle is all of the mission packs for one pre-purchase price.
Mind you, the content of the Mission packs are very much oriented towards a full campaign. So it has voices and dialogue, new ingame cutscenes, new character models etc. It’s quite a lot of singleplayer specific material you’re paying for, much that was not applicable to custom games.
Wait so you want balancing patches, and then you want them to add new races? Like you know they already struggle a lot to balance the game and one of the main reasons for that is because there are 4 races, and you want 2 more. Like 20+ matchups to balance, let’s go.
Also, remember this is not Starcraft. Here custom games actually matter, they can be mobas, additional campaigns or wc1/2 maps, so why paying when you can have them for free? Because of the voices? Nah.
I’d rather pay because it’s entirely likely that Blizzard would include their own custom assets for those maps rather than be lazy and just recycle units that have nothing to do with the First and Second Wars.
Though personally I wish they’d just release said custom assets “standalone” as files to be accessed through the World Editor for map makers.
Not true, RoC and TFT were fine being separated, even with USWest/USEast/Euro/Asia all being separate. On top of that, we used to also have various servers such as W3Arena and Netease which segregates players even further. Now with Reforged all the servers will be merged into one with improved MatchMaking, so it wont be an issue as well have a much larger playerbase than in recent years.
Plus, not everybody will buy the DLCs, and many people will prefer sticking with Classic, so its not really a good idea to alter TFT considering they already shutdown the RoC servers Reforged should be about preserving Classic, not eliminating it.
that’s exactly why they need to be separate ladders, leave the balance of TFT alone and begin new balancing progress without effecting TFT… not everybody is going to buy the DLC/expansions so it wouldn’t make since to add new heroes into Classic
and we know more heroes are welcomed by the majority of the community (just not for free, most likely as an extra paid-DLC)
my prices are not official, just an estimated idea to get people discussing the possibilities
I didn’t expect everybody to want to buy all 4 of my ideas (lol), I broke the DLCs into chunks because I knew everybody would want different parts.
Some people want Co-op Campaign stuff, some people want a new ladder with new features for multiplayer, some people want more Custom/Editor features, and some people want other stuff or just don’t care
Obviously nobody is going to say they want all 3, since each one appeals to a different style of gamer. That’s why I think this would be the best option for everybody.
