Thanks everyone for the appreciation on Mass Recall.
If it’s as simple as deleting a small number of additions, maybe. But changing terrain or creating cutscenes is far too long to be realistic, I had a lot more time when I was a student and Mass Recall still took a team of 3-4 people, plus thirty or so one-time contributors.
Realistically, a “Warcraft 3 in Warcraft 3” remake would only happen if Reforged can still run the old maps and someone pulls the files straight from the 2002 data.

So that would be a yes! It’s been confirmed that it runs the same custom maps and such, so as long as someone rips those map files and puts them somewhere safe, it should be simple to port them to a custom campaign.
This is magnificent news

Hey, I just read this and I, too very enjoyed your mod. And I am more optimistic that the changes can be a good thing. I played a lot of WC3 and also WOW and there are two directions it could go: weakening the plot and immersion like you pointed out in your Muradin example. Or adding elements that people coming from WOW will recognize. Like the entrance to the city, that wasn’t present in the original map, but I think that is great. Or some subbosses from WOW that reappear and revitalize the gameplay. I like that, too. And then there are some minor fixes that could be great like not having Orcs use Darkspear Trolls in the campaign before they ally with them (as that makes no logic sense). All of these are changes that would be good without breaking the immersion or the original feel. In addition: I played the original campaigns several times and still enjoy them. Having some fresh things to discover could be a nice thing and something I’m looking forward to. Blizzard got a lot better with mapdesign since then and remaking or tweaking some stuff is great and I look forward to replay the story with it still feeling like something new or having the chance to make new discoveries. I don’t want a 100% recreation and I think that’s what they are going for. They have the hard task ahead to identify which elements are necessary and nostalgic to WC3 players (like the zoo) and which are for WOW players (like the entrance and a few cameos) and fit all of that in a cohesive map that feels good and not unnecessarily overloaded. That’s difficult and not everyone will be happy with the results and what they consider essential and what not. But now we have the time to give them feedback if we miss characteristic or nostalgic elements. They should reintroduce the zoo and they should keep the Muradin ‘death’, but I wouldn’t like them to be too shy with changes either.
(One thing I just thought of: they could let the player decide interactively if they want to sacrifice Muradin to boost Arthas to Lvl 11 or something or just walk away. So people can decide their own canon, which could be a neat tweak)

Honestly I can’t say as I agree with you, I found it a lot more fun that they added the hidden bosses in the culling that where the bosses in the 5 man dungeon from WoW.
I am sure that there will be an option to just play the old campaigning with the new models, so I would love it if they used this new effort to fill in a few of the holes that the original game had, and add a more solid bridge between WC3 and WoW.
So… speak for yourself I guess
