I downloaded and installed W3 REFORGED by Battle net, but when I click the PLAY button, a screen appears with a warning of “an error was found in the application”.

I looked over the crash logs reported from your side, and it looks like this crash is being caused by a problem with the old Nvidia graphics drivers that your system is using.
Try updating the Nvidia drivers to the latest version and that should clear it up.
For your Geforce 740M the latest driver on Windows 10 is version 425.31 here:
