It’s going to be interesting to see how they balance under powered heroes. Some of the heroes just have a great toolkit compared to others, so numbers tweaking alone might not be enough. Then if they nerf some heroes to bring others up to standard will that drastically change the way people play?
yes nerf f…cking kotg with hes imbalanced root units
I think they’re very balanced as they are. Yes it matters what hero you pick as your first and some counter others but as a whole they really couldn’t make it much more balanced. Did you have something particular in mind?
You could say the same about Blademaster, Archmage, DK and Demon Hunter…but in reality they are in a good place. How do they bring other heroes up without destroying the gameplay for heroes that are popular now.
IMHO numbers tweaking is almost always enough. It’s annoying when a mechanic like KotG roots gets different functionality when all it needed was different numbers. Especially when it loses much of its uniqueness.
Although, not sure if siege-damage ancient-protectors could’ve been balanced, but if so it would be pretty neat.
Little chance they are balanced IMO.
When was the last time you saw a Dreadlord, POTM, Bloodmage in a competitive game?
Then you have heroes like the Paladin relegated to third pick as all he is good for is being a fat priest.
It’s inportant that the game has viable and diverse paths for heroes.
I’ve successfully won many games with all heroes, the only one that falls a bit short is the Lich and not by much. You’re underestimating the other heroes, perhaps you need more practice with them?
I feel like right now every hero has their place, even if some are super niche. Whether it’s 1v1, hero killing, team games, or particular strategies.
No KotG is in a level all its own early game right now. There is a reason why its spammed every game by NE players in competitive. Both entangle and the treants are super strong early on when you have no dispel.
Many of the other heros you mentioned (like BM and DK) have been nerfed in recent patches. You see farseer first for Orc a lot more now than you use to and UD spam DK because its the only form of tier 1 healing they have outside of vamp aura which only works on ghouls, so your are forced into DK most games.
At the end of the day you’re always going to have a superior choice of heroes to some regard. Achieving a balance of every hero is an equal choice to pick first is unrealistic.
They should leave balance out of the development until the game is fully released. I’m not saying its perfect but balance is constantly running in circles.
If the paladin always gets picked third it still has an optimal place. I agree some heroes are in a worse spot but currently all picks can be made viable unless you’re playing top tier players. So until development is complete balance is in a good spot right now.
I hope you people are aware that there is a PTR for W3/tFT. Balance changes are ongoing.
There’s a difference between being able to win games with heroes and whether that hero was the optimal choice. Sure, if you’re a great player you can win with any hero but just because you can win with, say, a Warden first pick doesn’t mean that a Demon Hunter wouldn’t have done better for you in that same game.
Personally I’d like to see a few heroes adjusted a little. I’m just fine with certain heroes like the Mountain King or Lich being “second pick” heroes but I’d like some heroes that aren’t picked that often at all to be tweaked slightly to make them viable as either first or second picks.
That’s the key thing, each faction hero needs to be a viable first or second pick all else being equal. The reality is that probably won’t happen, but that is the dream…tavern heroes are where niche specialties should be coming in.
Are they going to actually make a serious attempt at modernizing the game balance-wise? This includes maximizing unit/hero diversity.
They will further balance the game but they won’t do anything dramatic. No one should expect any new units or heroes by release, that’ll be for a future dlc perhaps if we’re lucky.
