There is no official ladder, Reforged or otherwise. Blizzard removed it when Reforged was released. Sure, there is matchmaking, but it’s just random matches with no ladder ranking to show for it.
You’d have to use Warcraft 3 Champions (W3C for short) and join it to get a semblance of ladder. https://www.w3champions.com/
But no, you don’t have to purchase Reforged for that.
press on you name upper right corner → account settings → insert cd keys
→ reedem code → press games and subscriptions → scroll down to buttom → download wc3 client → install
Enter xhttps://www.w3champions.com/ → download → install → activate system → enter Wc3 → viola you have wc3 with ladder

Ladder is currently not implemented. At the moment I honestly cannot say when it will be as development seems to have largely stalled.
There is no ladder anymore (For now, at least…).
Old battle.net no longer exists. You can still play WC3, but the ladder is gone for everyone, reforged or not. There do exist third party ladders, such as War3Champions, however. Which to be fair could be considered more sophisticated than War3’s ever was even before Reforged.
will they ever bring back the ladder? i surely aint buying this game for the campaign.
The short answer is probably. When, we don’t know.
You can still play multiplayer, there just isn’t a ranking system. You don’t have to have that to enjoy an online battle against a real person. And before you say something about matches not being fair, there is in fact an MMR, it just isn’t used to show a list of people in order of how high their MMR is. (You can type !mmr in a game lobby to see your MMR)
Will it return? Maybe. But the current “Classic Games Team” is currently focused on Diablo II Ressurected. The soonest any update to War3 of any kind could come is after that project is released on September 23.
If you really feel you can’t enjoy Melee without a ranking system, there does exist a third-party mod called War3Champions, which features melee ladders as well as ladders for various popular custom games- which, even if we do get the official ladder, it certainly isn’t going to offer that.
