General Poll: How much have you played Campaign?

Please just answer these questions (lets not start a debate about complaints here please):

Have you ever completed the original campaign before?

What difficulty are you playing on (Story, Normal, or Hard)?

What chapter or level are you on (Name the Race and Chapter)?

If you have played the original campaign before, how do you compare it to the new Reforged campaign? and if you have NOT played before, do you ever plan on playing the Classic version?

Yes, 16 years ago ±.

Normal (but I find it too easy :S)

Undead campaign, chapter 1.

I don’t remember if this is equal as the old version in terms of difficulty. I like the graphics and changes in the cinematics of this version.

  • Yes, many times

  • Always play on Hard, unless in co-op then play Insane

  • Currently with Reforged im near the end of the Undead Campaign (RoC), but I have also played quite a few different levels in custom co-op maps and I was really surprised they still work! good job @ thespoon & hiveworkshop

  • The main difference I am experiencing with the Reforged Campaign is the increase of Upkeep from 40 to 50 making the game way too easy as you bank tons of gold while making a larger army

  • Im also sad Blizzard scrapped the 4+hours of new campaign content, it would have been awesome and I think a lot less people would be complaining :frowning:

Never played the original, I was too busy playing various MMOs. I payed WC 1 & 2 campaign when they released though. Bought the WC3 Warchest a few years ago but could never get past the look so I only logged maybe an hour. I’m only about 15 hours in on Normal but I’m enjoying the campaign. I have no intent of playing online matches though.

  • I played the original ROC campaign before up to halfway through the Night Elves chapter when I stopped because I got stuck on a ridiculously hard mission.

  • I play on hard.

  • I have just completed the human chapter.

  • I can’t compare it to the original campaign because this was about 14 or 15 years ago.

Made it to the end of the RoC UD campaign and then stopped and dont want to go on any further. Seing how the maps of Dalaran and Silvermoon were remade like amateurs made them not useing even 20% of the assets they introduced in the new editor made me sick and i stopped.
Just for the sake of comparison i am going to leave a link here how it could have been made if it was made with love and passion for the game. This was made by just ONE GUY that did multiple scapes, and now for you who have played through at least all the RoC campaigns can see what could have been if Blizzard did their job seriously:

It looks like it will be up to the moders to recreate the campaigns that we were promised in the end and will do it FOR FREE because they love the game and the franchise more then the company that made it it would seem.

Have you ever completed the original campaign before?
Yes, on several occasions. I’ve had this game since I was 13 (I am 30 now). Probably played through the campaign once every 5 years.

What difficulty are you playing on (Story, Normal, or Hard)?
I have completed the campaign on Hard maybe 2-3 times on ROC, and at least once on TFT. ROC hard campaign is very easy (except for the 10th undead mission), but on TFT it takes nearly a day for each mission.

What chapter or level are you on (Name the Race and Chapter)?
None. I have completely abandoned it. I am extremely unsatisfied and frustrated with what they have done to WC3. I never wanted Reforged and I never asked for it, sure I can try it, but I felt indifferent to it. I want the game that I loved back. I refuse to play this travesty. Every time I play this I feel angry and betrayed.

If you have played the original campaign before, how do you compare it to the new Reforged campaign? and if you have NOT played before, do you ever plan on playing the Classic version?
See above. It’s nearly identical, which is also quite frustrating, this game feels like a cash-grab cause its just reskinned models that they sold for a full priced game. I enjoyed levels that had been slightly remade like Silvermoon and Stratholm (and ironically it proves Reforged had great potential), but overall its just been a lazy copy-paste. I honestly cant believe how people say Reforged has been a good game, it almost makes me believe these people never actually played WC3 until now and discovered that it was a fundementally good game, and now gives Reforged all the credit for being fun.

Yes, many times.

In normal.

I’m in chapter 3 of the night elves.

The aggregates you have please me a lot. It is at the same level as the classic one for me.
I do not plan to play the classic version.

Hey.

Yes, completed many times.

Playing on Hard.

Currently on The Orcale, Mission 8 in the Orc campaign.

I’m enjoying the campaign so far. Missions are still the same basically but some have been tweaked to be a bit more friendly (2nd Human mission, no longer have to mine trees to get to the hidden mobs). The changes to Strathome, Dalaran and Quel’Thalas were nice. Cut scenes have been improved a lot to better fit the scenes.

Hi There,

Sorry where did they ever promise more campaign content? Unless you just mean cinematics instead of cut scenes?

But yes the upkeep changes to make it easier, sitting on an army at 50 pop to build up gold defeats the purpose of most maps. I am finding that certain missions are very difficult on Hard, The Long March (Orc 2) and March of the Scourge (Human 5) for example.

Played it ages ago beat it on every difficulty back then.

I’ve been taking it slow so i’m only on the oracle in the horde campaign an normal so I can reeally take the time needed to gauge every square inch of the campaign.

Thus far…i’m not impressed, it looks like a few amateur mapmakers went and imported a bunch of resources using the old editor.

No (despite having had the game for 15+ years!). I was in the middle of trying to complete the campaign.

Normal.

Chapter 7 of Night Elves in The Frozen Throne.

I have not even bothered trying to play the campaign since the update, as all my campaign progress has been lost. (I didn’t even buy Reforged: the update was forced on me.)

Normal now feels laughably easy. Maybe I’ve gotten better at gaming in general but I remember it as being a lot tougher back in the days.

Multiple times.

Currently on Hard of course, not like there is much challenge for most of it anyway.

Having laid waste to Dalaran, I am currently summoning Archimonde.

The reforged missions are definitely easier than the originals were. Those remade cities may look good but their garrisons suck. They hardly send any units to attack, so the entire thing plays like a dungeon crawl mission while you have a fully functional base pumping out replacements.
The Elf capital was a bad joke, in the original they straight up murdered you if you let any messenger pass through, now they just sat there and let you kill them. Same with Dalaran. At one point my base was attacked by a single gryphon rider out of Dalaran. That’s no attack, it’s an insult.
The rest of the campaign levels are fine, it’s just the new ones that are rather poorly made.
Like what’s the point of the damaging aura in Dalaran existing, if you never have to enter it for any significant time because the mage you need to kill is always right at the front? The level designers really dropped the ball on this one.

  1. Yes. I played the campaign roughly yearly since it’s release.
  2. Currently Hard. I’m a sucker for achievements/rewards, so doing it for the avatars. I’ll probably go back to normal next run through as Hard is actually annoying sometimes.
  3. Just finished A Destiny of Flame and Sorrow. Unfortunately, my campaign progress wiped and difficulty dropped, so I’m using allyourbasearebelongtous to complete my way back to it. Will be Eternity’s End, NE7.
  4. There are some good tweaks I like a lot. In Blackrock and Roll, the headhunters are switched with axe throwers. The “secret” area in the northwest had the trees changed so you don’t have to wait for peasants to clear the way. The big three new levels… I liked Stratholme fine. The new mini-bosses while you work your way through the level give it a bit of variance and the fact that you’re rewarded for engaging Mal’ganis is nice. Silvermoon… so the new version is definitely interesting, but it fell flat. The two new heroes had no presence (Anasterien didn’t even have a voice line), the archmages are still random ones to the point where Aran Spellweaver was both here and later in Dalaran with two different models, and I spent a good 10-15 minutes trying to figure out why I didn’t have Banshee Sylvanas after the side quest. XD New Dalaran was interesting, and I think was possibly my favorite of the new three (if only because Stratholme while solely good in the changes was quite mild). The final fight against Antonidas had a certain epicness that he didn’t have in the original. I didn’t check if the other three mages match the names for the BE mission though.

As for smaller changes. Getting the dmg types and TFT changes in RoC is nice. And, perhaps most importantly of all, THEY FINALLY FIXED THAT STUPID BUG THAT REGISTERED CHAOS KODOS AS PEONS. cough Sorry. On the other hand, I would have thought reforged would be the perfect place to finally give us a Dreadlord hero for one freaking mission. Just have Tichondrius help us defend KT since the Legion is sending their other demons to help. But alas, I’ll have to make due with the half-version in Varimathras.

Other things I noticed… there was an annoying bug in Brothers In Blood (NE5) where Malf didn’t get XP, so I finished the level without hitting 6. That was annoying. The new cutscene between Antonidas and Jaina was pretty nice. A lot of the new creep models and buildings capture the feel of them better than before. Giving the names to some of the units (the captains, that one mortar team in Human3) was a nice touch. And I wished they changed the two missions prior to Silvermoon in the undead campaign. For one, the first of the three is flipped (you’re supposed to be venturing northeast into Silvermoon, but you actually start in the northwest corner and work your way southeast) and just needlessly annoying with having to constantly pull up Meat Wagons to break through yet another tree barrier. And all the island hopping of the second one… -_- But those were gripes from the original.

All in all, I’m happy with most of the changes. I think some could have gone a little farther; it definitely seems like there are fewer changes the farther in I get. But I wish my campaign progress would stop resetting.

Actually, I didnt want Blizzard change a single bit of story or map design. I just wanted something like SC Remastered. Thus, in a certain way I am relieved.

I’m not going to argue the merits of new facelift graphics for the game, because personally I do not like them and I can still play with the old aesthetics if I prefer it that way.

The problem I do have is the lack of any kind of improvements within the client to an already existing product and the removal of many of them.

I literally can’t enjoy the game the game because the new client that runs both versions is a complete mess in many ways. It’s a complete disgrace that the project was greenlit for release in this state.

Which tree do I bark under for the removal of many features that were all functioning and present in the old 3gb version of the game? Despite not ordering the Reforged, I am still stuck with a barely functioning product that worked flawlessly two days ago.

Aside from 2-3 missing missions in the orc prologue and the entire Rexxar campaign missing for classic users, I’m not even interested on playing multiplayer despite the influx of new players. Why are the shadows gone? Why is the campaign I’ve already beaten completely reset at random? Why am I getting a “waiting for host” error popup in mission prologue in-game cinematics and why are certain missions closing down on their own?

Why is the LAN feature missing? I’m sick of this DRM BS. If I’m going to be playing this game again it will be on some other platform or through other means because in this state I am likely never to touch it again.

  1. Yes
  2. Hard
  3. chapter 2 nightelf ROC
  4. It feels easier prob due to TFT dataset applied to ROC designed missions. In terms of mission differentiation i see some little touches here and there. The overhauled maps (Silvermoon and Dalaran) look ok and refreshing BUT i kinda felt that they were planning to do so much more with them that they feel half empty. About the dalaran overhaul i dislike that it became immensely easier, at the end of the mission i staked like 7k gold cause i never needed to make more units.
