I bought WC3:Reforged last night and played for a bit. I though the game looked like trash but maybe thought it was just because I was tired.
I tried it again today and thought it again looked like trash. When you zoom-down it looks good – but you can’t play the game that way. In zoomed-out mode it looks horrible.
Is this just my opinion or does anyone else feel the same way?
Everything regarding the art is way too homogenous. The models in original WC3 were messes of polygons, but at least then you could tell the difference between a grunt and a shaman.
It looks like utter garbage. The design team has no taste and no appreciation of the desing language of the classic wc3. I cant see anything in a large battle, but beyond readibility issues it just looks ugly.
Btw: The classic graphics also look like trash now in reforged engine (remember you switch back and forth via the options menu). They somehow managed to mess up the classic look, it doesnt look the same anymore. Its more washed out etc.
The unit animations runs at 30 FPS and the map scrooling at whatever FPS you have set as max. If you have an 120 Hz monitor , at 120 FPS it looks disgusting
I don’t think it looks like trash. The models of buildings and units both display a greater level of detail. I think my issue is that the ground textures look a bit flat and repetitive compared to other RTS games like Company of Heroes for example. But I am not sure if they made these more detailed whether it would only further compound the problem some people have already which is visual clarity. The models on their own as I said look great. But with that much detail if you start to pack enemies into a group? They do start to blend together a bit. I expect it’s something many will get used too. But more than that I wish they had lifted the unit selection limit.
With regards to the UI? I much prefer the older UI especially the victory and defeat screens. They had more character imo.
