FPS Drop in Lua Custom Games After Recent Patch

Hello Blizzard Support Team,

I’m reporting a performance regression that appeared immediately after the most recent small patch update to Warcraft III: Reforged.

Since the update, I am experiencing a major FPS drop specifically in custom games that use full Lua scripting. Prior to the patch, these same maps ran smoothly with stable performance.

Issue summary:
• Severe FPS decrease in Lua-based custom games after the latest patch
• Performance was normal before the update
• The problem occurs consistently when loading and playing the affected custom map(s)

Steps to reproduce:

  1. Launch Warcraft III: Reforged after the latest patch

  2. Host or join a custom game that uses Lua scripts extensively

  3. Begin gameplay

  4. Observe significant FPS drops compared to previous versions

Expected result:
Custom games using Lua scripts should perform as they did before the patch, with stable and playable framerates.

Actual result:
FPS drops dramatically, making gameplay sluggish and difficult or impossible to play.

Additional notes:
• The issue appears isolated to Lua-scripted custom maps
• Other non-Lua or standard games seem less affected (or unaffected)
• No hardware or driver changes were made between the working version and the patch

If needed, I can provide the specific custom map name, logs, or further testing details.

Thank you for looking into this regression.

Best regards

It can also be added that the issue seems to be happening in combination with the affected users having an AMD Ryzen CPU, where as Intel CPU users seem to not have this problem.

Same here - we have a custom map with many units, the FPS has been reduced massively, this is a very huge issue. The game is borderline unplayable now.

This is impacting a large number of players in our community. Addressing this should be a top priority. It appears to impact users with AMD hardware.

I don’t play anymore, but I spent 300 or so dollars on Warcraft III, primarily for macro map usage, one of which was LUA based. Please service AMD users.

I ran tests using Risk Europe on the PTR. With the same number of units, the original version runs at around 28 FPS on the map, while the PTR version reaches approximately 80 FPS. Tests were performed on an AMD Ryzen 9 7950X3D running at 4.20 GHz.

This issue seems to be resolved with the latest patch. Nice!
