Some of you back in the day said that the 2018 graphics are “too realistic” and “doesn’t look like WC3 at all”…
Here are some nice looking shots of the trailer:

The first one sure (also, the Curling), it’s darker, but only because there is no sun - only rain.
Two others do have a sun and how does it look? Like a bright and cartoony Warcraft III style, but also with good shaders and realistic (Not Dark blue) water
Everything is beautiful - every unit had almost glowing team color parts, orcs skin isn’t too bright like it is in the beta, Dreadlords are gray and not as pink as beta, locations fit the units perfectly
The 2018 Demo looks better than the Trailer and the Beta.
We hope they choose the modern graphics from the 2018 DEMO in the release. The demo with the modern graphics look fits and matches so well with the realistic style of everything was made in Reforged.
Not sure if horrible community will allow them to do so,but I hope so…
I really hope they have a release build…
Also,I saw that because of a purists whining - they add that stupid terrain around each building back…And changed golden elemets of a buildings to yellow
Yeah, a small minority of outspoken purists dominated feedback with the devs, and the devs listened to them as if their opinions were valid and not driven completely by emotions. They had way too much influence and ruined the game in many ways, I’m sure. I blame the devs though, and I think Pete Stilwell probably falls in the purists category.
During the RE2 remake the purists all wanted fixed camera angles, and even signed a petition for it. The dev team went against the core fan base and did what was best. In the end the game was amazing and incredibly popular, and I think most of the ‘purists’ enjoyed it as well. People don’t really know what they want, especially when they’re blinded by emotions and nostalgia.
Well said. Although I (want to) believe that the “the players didn’t want changes” is just an excuse. They ran into problems developing the game and they fell behind schedule. Then they had to cut stuff out, because they didn’t have the time and money. Then they had to say something, so they were told to say that “the community didn’t want any changes”. I just gotta believe they can’t be so blind they didn’t see, that in reality most people did want this to be more than just a remaster.
Yeah, but they started development from the WC3 engine, which was a mistake in my opinion. Maybe they did that because the classic team already had their hands in it, but the sensible thing to do would have been to use a modern engine as a starting point. Fixing WC3 to work easily on modern hardware and maybe up-res it would have been fine, but as soon as they decided to put in modern assets they should’ve known that there’d be major technological problems.
This guy knew what was up over a year ago, and I wish more people listened to him.
Very interesting post, I dont know as much, but afaik I agree with that, I always say that negative feedback had to be very minoritary; as its not reflected in this forums, press coverage which loves outrages and hate trains barely mentioned anything about a supposed widedspread bad feedback…so yeah, I also blame Blizzard.
Who knows, maybe one of the reasons why they didnt bother to communicate is because they realized about this ( following a vocal and minoritary negative feedback from purists ) too late in development…
Agree. Or at least they should have not made Reforged backwards-compatible. Because that is just awful. If they had more free hands with updating the engine (and not worry about breaking the Classic game) I’m sure they would have had a lot better results. And this whole backwards-compatible thing is just a stupid compromise that is going to hurt all players: on the other hand, it’s going to break a lot of stuff from the Classic (as we have seen with the numerous bugs that have come since the updates) and there is inevitably going to be some changes to the original game. And yet, at the same time they still can’t make any real, big changes what Reforged would really need.
Imo it would have been a lot better if they had at least treated Reforged like a new expansion pack: leave TFT and RoC alone. Make a new version of the game with all the QoL improvements and don’t worry if it’s going to piss off the purists, because the purists would have always had the classic TFT to go back to. And in the end, I think even all the purists would have then transferred to RF in time, once they realize they were just blinded by emotions and nostalgia.
I know it is updated. That was not my point. My point was that if they didn’t make it backwards-compatible, they would have had a lot more freedom to update the engine. Or even remake the game in SC2 engine or something. But because it is now limited to Classic, their hands are tied and every little change they end up making has a chance to “break the game”.
What will be fixed? By “breaking the game” I don’t just mean bugs, but all the gameplay mechanics some players claim are fundamental features of the game. I mean things like changing the pathing, or making the AI more smart and faster, or uplifting the 12 unit selection limit, etc. They are now tied to Classic, because if they go changing any of these kind of things, some people will think this breaks the game. If Reforged was a title on its own, this wouldn’t be a problem, and the devs didn’t have to carefully think every little change whether it is too drastic or not. Heck, some think that even balance changes are breaking the game…
I remind you that engine is updated and if you know how to use it you can remove 12 unit selection, change UI,reprogramm AI.
That will never be a part of the game but you can make it in editor
If there was no connection to old maps - A hours and months of making old maps and campaingns was spend for nothing
You can litterally use new editor to create a third-person MMO RPG inside reforged, with your own UI and spells. You can create new custom models right
inside the editor
Uh… What the heck are you talking about? Seems like you are talking about a totally different game.
No, you can’t.
Sure, that’s one of the few new things, but even that is quite clunky and difficult.
You always could do that, but it’s quite a hassle. And still very limited. Basically all you can do is give the AI some conditions and then orders what to do. I was talking more about the under the hood stuff, like the pathing AI, so that units knew how to walk in a straight line without bumping into each other, etc.
They wouldn’t be totally wasted. TFT would always be there and you could always go back to that. And if we truly got a new, more powerful Editor, I’m 100% sure map makers would have been happy to have our hands on something better than the World Editor. Remaking maps with a new, more powerful Editor would not have been a problem for majority of map makers. Only real issue I find is that if some of the makers of the some very old maps are no longer active, someone else would have to try to remake their maps. But I don’t think that would be too bad either. Rather, it would be interesting to have more new ideas and new maps and not just the same old ones.
What new editor? It’s still just the same Editor with a couple of added features.
You could always do that. Nothing to do with Reforged. Except that they did add events for all keyboard buttons, so there’s that. But wasn’t impossible before either.
What? No, you can’t. Have you even opened the Editor? Geez…
What we have now is not finished release editor
New one is going to have tool for creating models and remove 12 selection
You can’t play a competetive with more than 12 selection, but you can make an unlimited game
New editor will be simple to use and will have a tutorial mode
