File size is ridiculous

Id really like an explanation on how the reforged file size is 30ish GB.
Seriously what was downloaded that required so much space for this game?

Considering doom eternal, which from reviewers who have gotten the game early have said that the download is less than 40 GB. When comparing the games I just dont see where warcraft 3 is in need of that much space.

Blizzard is a small indie company

the amount of space required for refunded is indeed ridicules.

not only that, i played through the campaigns in the first week after release and the game was auto saving 3-4 times each mission. i started to wonder how much space all these auto saves took up after finishing the camp on normal and half of it on hard.

almost 1 and a half GB was eaten by these auto saves… needless to say i uninstalled the game.

now i just check forums and stuff once a week to see if blizz will ever sort this mess of a game out.

Mostly textures. DXT5 compressed DDS does not compress well with standard zip algorithms. Each unit model uses like 8 or so 2048x2048 or larger 32 bit per pixel DDS textures compressed with DXT5. These of course have full mipmaps so are ~33% larger as well. All unit models have unique textures and there are several hundred of them. The models themselves are not trivial either due to how complex the meshes and animations are. Even the thousand odd icons are not trivial seeing how the are 256x256 or something with both enabled and disabled versions. On top of that the entire classic game is inside the install as well, for an added 2GB odd since that uses DDS as well.

Sounds like a bug. Each save should only be a MB or so as they always have been.

Good news pal. 40gig was a fantasy number some people put out to have yet another reason to go crazy about. Game is less than 28gig.

What games are you working on to have that opinion? The models, like the dude above me said, are very detailed. What do you think Blizzard put to download? Since it costs money to provide files, you have to dismiss the idea that its unnecessary junk.

Besides this joke was and never will be funny, explain to me what gamefilesize have anything to do with the size of a company. Please, I am curious. Really. I would like to get behind your thought process here.

Suuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuure. I have completed the entire Campaign, have 213 Save Files (many manual saves among them) and I am not even close to a third near your mark.

i said doom eternal, a more graphics intensive game is less than 40 GB.
Reforged is over 30GB, as above had mentioned i still dont see it in “detailed units/textures” there are other games of the same vein that are far more complex and less in file size. So nice attempt at defending, but im not buying it.

You don’t have to buy anything. But after your explanation I am asking my self: Why do you repeat someone when you already know that it is not true? Also it is not over 30GB.

Same reason people go believing in the FlatEarth. Because uneducated people have a hard time “seeing” stuff while not understanding the complexity of a topic. Look for the Dunning Kruger Effect. What makes you think being qualified to judge stuff like that? Or in different words: What do you think Blizzard is shipping with the download? I already prepared my tinfoil hat, don’t let me down

Filesize indeed is a problem. Especially for the classic users which cant even use the new models but are forced to download anyways.
A simple “download Reforged content” toggle would fix this.

But anyways i still think there are more urgent problems they have to tackle first. If they shrink filesize next patch but dont do anything to their servers ill be mad asf.

weird battle.net says it is so idk what to tell you.

I dont need to be qualified in anything to be able to see two games that are of similar file sizes and are on two extremes for game complexity/graphics.

Lmao Doom 2016 is like 70 GB. Imagine people complaining about not having 30GB on their computers in 2020. Must be the Coronavirus…

Modern games have modern solutions. 18 year old games require you to deal with 18 year old solutions. AoEII went from around 300Mb to ~30GB also .

You can argue that highly detailed models on an overhead based RTS is complete overkill though.

which from reviewers who have gotten the game early have said that the download is less than 40 GB

That’s on Xbox One, which does not support higher resolutions than it could output. PC already has recommendations for 50gb+.

Then there is the multiplayer component, which is said to be another 38.6gb.

And then there’s talks of a 5gb day one patch for online-related stuff.

talking about doom eternal

@Triceron
gmanlives doesnt play console, his review of the game is PC version and its less than 40 Gb as of right now

To but an end to all this misinformation…

The actual size of Warcraft III 1.32.2 is just 26.3 GB (28,308,020,120 bytes). The size might be slightly larger than that due to file system overhead (26.3 GB (28,309,540,864 bytes) in my case) but still it is under 30 GB.

But with 4 2GB patches the file size is 50GB when I complain about it on the forums.

Even after 4 patches, my 1.32.3 is only 26.4 GB (28,413,800,678 bytes)…

It was sarcasms man

The full game release will go at 50-60 GB twice of the normal size game !! MMW.

Are you talking about the current pre-download happening?

some reviewers got the full game pre-release on PC and its under 40 GB

*playable, not the pre-download going on
