How did this even happen? Spiders are now simply unplayable as a starting mass unit. They suck against every starting unit in the game - against archers, against footmen (with shield), against riffles, against huntresses, against grunts, against headhunters, against ghouls… At what point did the developers decide that it was a cool decision to weaken spiders to the level of useless sheep?
Rule of UD - don’t waste mana early(wait until lvl 3 to throw coils) and don’t fight with fiends until you have at least 4 and are lvl 3 unless you are with other teammates. Lvl 1 coil on slow moving fiends is almost useless and you need 4 fiends to do enough damage to kill anything and kite. Quick Lich 2nd so that when you focus fire and they go to micro you hit them with nova. Keeps them from running away so you can finish them off.
You’re not wrong, IMO you just have to play around it. Hopefully they buff them one day.
Keep in mind that crypt fiends have artificial delay, meaning the developers intentionally made them slow. Problem is also you need to research too many upgrades before the unit becomes funnier to play.
a) Make crypt fiend projectile speed faster by 100 or 200. The projectile is a bunch of spiders running and it’s way too slow when an enemy unit is running the opposite direction. Previously crypt fiends had slow turn rate but it was increased.
b) Let crypt fiends and carrion beetles start with burrow already researched and then remove burrow research from crypt building. Burrow is currently waste of gold as it requires too much micro and doesn’t help at all since hp regen was nerfed and enemy has invisible detection.
c) Add +1 hp regen when carrion beetles are burrowed. Crypt fiends have +5 hp regen when burrowed and I always wondered why carrion beetles also don’t regen when burrowed.
d) Make crypt fiends unburrow faster but decrease hp regen when burrowed from 5 to 4.
None of this will help - even if they run faster, they will still be free experience for everyone. In RT, enemies always try to kill them first, because it is easy to do.
You still have to manage to gather an army of fiends, but if you pump up to level 4 DK, then the enemy will already be 5. So imagine - you have 4 DK, 1 lich, 4-6 fiends, and the enemy has 5 paladin and 20 Rifles at this point. Your actions?
I wonder if they would introduce some sort of upgrade that makes them able to move underground, Infestor style.
That’d be sorta neat.
Then it would be better to make them flying - an upgrade on T2 (same as web).
ye ud has been getting nerfed cause everyone cries about happy winning but no one thinks about the state of the game. the results is that fiends are trash unit tier. i barely build the nowadays, unless its mass wyvern. the build you should go for is 9 ghouls. after that you can go a single fiend. after this u are t3 and have options, like abomb, wyrm, fiends or destros
I’m pretty sure burrow is the whole reason they’re otherwise inferior, because you can save them from dying with the click of a button. it doesn’t really require anywhere near the same level of micro as any other unit.
