Feature Request: Camera Movement with Hotkeys

Dear Blizzard Team,

First off, congratulations on the successful release of Patch 2.0 for Warcraft III: Reforged! The hard work and dedication you’ve poured into revitalizing this classic is truly commendable. The improvements and the direction the game is heading are fantastic, and as a long-time fan, I’m thrilled to see the game evolving in such a positive way.

I wanted to suggest an accessibility feature that I believe could further enhance gameplay for many players: the ability to pan the camera using keyboard hotkeys, such as WASD or other customizable keys. This feature is a staple in games like StarCraft 2 and offers an intuitive, fluid way to navigate the battlefield, especially for players who find mouse panning less comfortable or precise.

Adding camera hotkeys would provide:

  • Accessibility: It would make the game more accessible to players with mobility challenges or those who prefer keyboard controls.
  • Customizability: Allowing players to map their own keys for camera movement would cater to a variety of playstyles.
  • Consistency: Many players transitioning from other RTS games like StarCraft 2 might find this familiar and welcoming.

I hope this feature aligns with your vision for the game’s future and that it might be considered for a future patch. Thank you for continuing to breathe new life into Warcraft III and for listening to the community’s feedback. I’m excited to see what’s next for this beloved game!

Keep up the amazing work!

Do the arrow keys not suffice? Those work just fine.

I would also like the option to use WASD for camera panning.

I can see wanting to move the keyboard panning to the left hand but I’ll be honest, I don’t really use the keyboard to move the camera at all, i’ve always done it with the mouse, be it clicking on the map, holding middle mouse, or edge scrolling.

Yes, the arrow keys do work, and I’m using them now. However, they disrupt the flow of thinking when playing the game. The best way I can describe it is like going from a modern Call of Duty controller scheme where you instinctively know which buttons do what, to an older title where the actions are mapped differently. Technically, it’s still playable, but the controls feel out of sync with how I naturally interact with the game. Instead of just playing, I find myself pausing to think about how to play.
