The original Warcraft 2 servers are still up in all their Battle.net 1.0 glory because the game hasn’t gotten remastered or modernized (as in Blizzard Battle.net 2.0 modernized, not just a compatibility update like what GoG did). RoC servers only went down when they wanted to unify the client for Reforged and said disconnects were being caused by erroneous matches between RoC and TFT. Of course, this is just an excuse to take the easier and cheaper way out instead of doing the work of properly supporting both versions (which could be done either in one client or two separate ones). So I can practically guarantee that if it weren’t for Reforged, RoC servers would still be up.
The RoC campaign is still there, even if it uses TFT balance in Reforged mode. But if you consider RoC to be gone, you could say the original TFT is gone too because they only support the Reforged client now, and have made many changes since they first started updating the game again like balance changes, stripped features and added bugs.

What, by opening the map in world editor and saving it with RoC settings? A bit inconvenient especially for multiple maps. Or is the option somewhere in the game menus?

RoC still had a small amount of players and at least a few other topics have been made complaining about the removal of RoC battle.net. But I’ll give you that Blizzard doesn’t seem to think it’s enough to care.
Yes! I understand the game being almost 20 years old and them not getting paid anymore, so why didnt they just go the route of charging 5 to $10 a year to play online, to cover servers and balance changes. I will admit TFT is a better more complete, and higher skillcap but as someone who played RoC for 17-18 years while followung the TFT scene, i just dont understand why they cant have ROC on the old client now. Just like WC2. Come on blizzard! Even charge some $ just start listening to your loyal fans.

They haven’t really been trying to balance RoC for a long time. Any balance changes that got made for RoC were also made and ultimately for TFT. Either that could have continued or they could have stopped giving balance updates to RoC altogether to preserve it as it was. Either way, if they can still afford to keep Warcraft 2 and Diablo 1 and 2 servers up, then they should’ve been able to keep RoC servers up too, without charging extra money for it.
