Do we really need to have 40 different ladder ratings?

Currently Ranked play gives you a seperate rating by race.

There are 5 race options including Random.
There are 8 ways to play.
= 40 different ratings possible.

To get a rating in every possible category, this also means you need to play
5 games per Q in 1s, 2s, 2s AT, 3s, 3s AT, 4s, 4s AT
plus 3 games for FFA
x 5 races = 190 placement matches

This is a little silly dont you think?

There’s game breaking bugs waiting to be fixed and life changing features waiting to be added/restored in both the editor and the game

They took 2 years to add irrelevant melee content, now be grateful and wait your turn in 2024, its time for the custom maps community to get what they deserve.

The whole point of this PTR session is testing the features being implemented in this update. Commenting on those features is not in any way meant to minimize any other issue.

Ranked play is one of those many features you refer to. melee may be “irrelevant” to you, but it isn’t to others. And in fact, it was the latest thing they were promising to do at the time things went dark.

hey did u know u can care about TWO things???

The fact that something you want isn’t in this update doesn’t mean they don’t care about it. They said UP FRONT that this won’t be the only update.

These things had already been worked on by the previous team and thus were likely closest to completion. Would you rather sit on your tush for another 6 months for one update that does everything? Personally, I’d rather get each feature as it becomes ready.

I’d rather have the devs focus on adding and fixing stuff, why would they waste any time removing category ratings? it would be taking away from a feature they worked so hard to add.

It’s not a bug and you’re not meant to get a rating in every game mode, you can be a 2v2 specialist and suck in other modes it’s fine to each their own, besides.

Who are you to decide if this or that race+mode combo should or shouldn’t be playable in ranked, some people might actually want to grind that very race+mode you’re trying to remove.

Also for people complaining about dividing the melee player base they should just make it possible to search for a match in multiple modes at the same time

I didn’t say it was a bug, I said it was poor design of a feature. Ratings per race are totally unnecessary. If one understand the game well, they will perform regardless of the race played.

This wouldn’t be some onerous, lots-of-work-to-implement change that would push back development of other things like you imply.

I’m not talking abouty removing any race or mode. Huh??? This is about having seperate ratings by both race and mode. This has nothing to do with “specializing,” nor does it have anything to do with “removing” anything. Each game mode should have a rating. Not 5 ratings by race. It is far to onerous for a player to get ranked with each race. It is as I said above. A good player knows how to play the whole game, not just one race, so race selection shoudln’t matter for rating or matching purposes. There are just too many categories. Eliminating seperate ratings per race would largely solve this.
This would be like if Overwatch issued seperate MMRs on a per-hero basis. They don’t do that, because it’s a dumb idea. A good player, at a minimum, knows how to perform in each role in that game, and a great player will excel with any hero and switch to that hero whenever it’s needed.

Who am I to give suggestions about ranked in a PTR forum? Someone who cares about the game and would like to see changes while something is in a testing phase. That isn’t unreasonable at all, that’s why we’re all here. No one said you had to like my suggestions, and no one’s forcing the team to implement them either. Why are you so up in arms? Yeah, how dare I suggest how I think ranked should work.

You’d be surprised, remember the footsteps updates?

Now i understand where you’re coming from, how about this, instead of removing race-specific ratings they could just display the total MMR of all races for each mode and voila problem solved, it would look like this:

1v1 MMR: 75 LP
Human: 20 LP
Orc: 25 LP
Nelf: 5 LP
Undead: 10 LP
Random: 15 LP

The purpose of this board of the forum is PTR discussion and bug report. He is discussing the PTR. Nothing unreasonable about this post. “wHo ArE yOu tO-“ chill out lmao

Something like that would obligate people to play all 5 race options. You can’t just add everything together lol.

MMR simply doesn’t really need to be specific by race. It would be like if League of Legends MMR was specific to each champion. Have fun doing 10 placement matches for like 200 champions. Or you can just have one rating for each ranked queue. Like how League does it.

A moba or hero shooter character does not have a fraction of the learning curve or intricacy of an entire rts race. That’s like saying you should be able to play Ryu at a high level because you’re good at Blanka. Most people only play once race for a reason, and having one MMR for everyone discourages people from off racing at all.

Players of MOBAs would likely disagree with you. Most players of League or DOTA etc. are not able to master even a relatively low percentage of the available characters- Nor are they expected to, which is the real point- It is neither asked nor expected of the player. I suppose the races could be more analogous to the roles rather than the individial heroes, but the point remains.

I can play the four different competitive queues in Overwatch and maintain a rating in each of them without much of a problem. Due to the way Warcraft III Reforged’s ladder evaluates you seperately not just by game mode but also by race, it’s an extremely burdeonsome system. It would likely take most people weeks to complete the placements for every race and mode.

I also feel like the fact that Random is included as its own thing really implies that mastery of the modes and the core tactics and strategies is more important than your mastery over the attributes of each race individually. After all, my understanding is that in current competitive circles (i.e. not W3R’s) being rated high as random carries more weight because you have a skill that isn’t defined or limited by any one of the four races.

But the real TL;DR of all of this is I really don’t think breaking down ratings by race is really necessary, especially since Random is more meaningful than any of the other options.

yes, because in another way someone like happy, cacxa26, or cacxa27 can receive small donation and you get few thousands of elo at 2v2 at the end of season, and will show your friends how cool u are after with your 50 apm X D No, my love, thats not gona happened.

Until it all gets reset after the season.

“A fool and their money are soon parted…”

I question whether anyone would even actually do that, but there are probably a few stupid people out there willing to give a pro some money to look better than they are for a limited time.

There is no more reasons to make merged elo between 1v1 2v2 3v3 4v4 and ffa. Its absolutely different things, and basically only 1v1 show real players level, thats why there no more serious tournaments other than 1v1.

No one said anything about merging 1v1 2v2 etc. So I don’t know where you’re getting that.

League of Legends doesn’t give you MMRs per champion, this game doesn’t need to give you MMRs per race including random. People should learn every race anyway. Especially if you’re playing random, which is why it’s particularly dumb to have a seperate MMR for random.

Nipe, i dont agree with this either. For example i’m personally better as hu or ne than ud and orc. And you change will make players stick to 1 race if they dont want to ruin their mmr\ winratio OR being steamrolled with race they want to learn next.
So no, both merging 1v1 with other game modeas or merging races is bad idea, more cons than pros.

Well I disagree with your disagreement. It doesn’t matter what races you play. You’re going to be playing the best you can play with whatever you choose. People who only play one race ever aren’t likely to spend much time playing the others, so one MMR is really all that is needed.

I maintain it is ridiculous to have 25 different MMR categories, all of which require 5 “placements” (3 for FFA, to get rated in them- especially for a game with a relatively limited playerbase like this. It spreads everything too thin.

There IS already “all races ladder” - its called random, so no need to make other one.

I didn’t say anything about making another ladder. I’m talking about not having 5 different MMRs for the same mode. Just have one.
Currently there are effectively 25 categories to get ranked in, which is ridiculous:
5 modes * 5 race selections; you have to play 5 games in each one to get an actual MMR (3 for FFA), or 95 games in total to recieve a ranking in everything. This is excessive and unnecessary. Just have one MMR for each mode, rather than breaking it down by race, especially when, as you noted, you can just go random, which doesn’t affect your skill with any given race- it’s still the same.
