Not only did you take classic client from us but you have also removed support for DirectX9 and now FPS drops and Mouse lag are unbearable for competetive gaming… somebody should sue you!!!
Understand that technology is always moving forward. Companies can’t be expected to support everything from the past. If they did put support DX9 in, what about those usung DX8? If so, what about DX7? Comapnies have to stop somewhere. DX9 is from 15 years ago, last supported in Windows XP, which is four operating systems ago.
There’s also the possibility that older DirectX APIs can’t do what WC3R requires. If not, essentially, another version of the game would have to be coded into the client making the client even larger than it already is.
There’s not much ground for a suit. The game supports a reasonable number of olded DirectX APIs. If people want to play modern games they need a computing environment that can support the code.
Understand that i don’t want to play MODERN REFORGED, understand that i want to play Warcraft 3 The Frozen Throne that worked perfectly until they merged it with reforged.
I’m using “Reforged” to refer to the current version of the game, not the Reforged mode within it.
But, like I said, technology is ever moving foward. Warcraft 3 was updated, like it has been done many times in the past. If 15 year old DirectX can’t do what the game requires, it’s going to be left behind.
All i know is that in previous patch i could write -graphicsapi direct3d9 at the command line which would significantly boost my fps and reduce mouse lag.
Merger with this 30 gb update with Reforged into a single client has messed something up for the Classic game.
What is withdrawn?
That would make sense. Due to its old age, Pre-Reforged must have supported DX9.
Technically, Reforged requires DX11, but the developers allowed as far back as DX10.1 to run in Classic mode (as long as the other specifications aren’t too low). So they are doing as much as possible to allow older DirectX versions. In this case, DX10.1 is as low as they are going/as low as the game can support.
Okay, i have DX11 installed on my machine, tell me , what should i type at command line in order to get my FPS back, to prevent FPS drops and to reduce mouse lag ?
Hey there Prax,
The game should default to DX11. Removing the command line argument for “-GraphicsApi Direct3D9” and deleting the “War3Preferences” file in your user documents folder should reset it to default.
The preferences file should be here:
C:\Users\WINDOWS USERNAME\Documents\Warcraft III
Let us know if this works for you.
You missed the point.
I was just trying to point out that ever since the Classic WC3 merged with Reforged into the single client, the Classic WC3 doesn’t work as good as it used to.
Hey there,
Sorry to hear that the game isn’t running as well as before. Lets go ahead and grab a DxDiag so we can further investigate the problem. Here are the instructions:
- Press Windows Key + R.
- Type DxDiag and press Enter.
- In the DxDiag window, click Save All Information.
- Name the file “dxdiag” and click Save
- Once you have that made, open the file. You’ll need to copy and paste the contents of the Text document into the post, and put four Tilde (~) marks above the DXDiag. It’ll look like this:
DXDiag goes here
If you have issues pasting here, please use Pastebin and post the link (ex: Pastebin (dot) com/123456).
Then install the old game and don’t go online and don’t update and you’ll be fine. As someone said above, companies sometimes abandon old technologies to be able to move forward and that’s normal.
For instance, Euro Truck Simulator 2 gave up a short while ago on DirectX 9 and now works only on DirectX 11. That’s normal.
I’m tired of hearing the DirectX9 rhetoric myself. In fact, I haven’t seen any of this “mouse lag” that people keep complaining about. As for the FPS…That’s simply a product of having higher end graphics…and honestly, people complaining about something running at a stable 60FPS are just ignorant…Seriously, people playing with 60Hz monitors complaining that they don’t have 300 FPS…So they want their PC to produce 300 frames, while their monitor is only showing them 60 of them. Even if you have a high end 144Hz monitor…That’s 144 frames, not the 300 or whatever people keep expecting to have.
Hey man, out of curiosity, do you know what the game is using DX11 instead of DX12?
Just as a side note. Understand that if your GPU and/or its drivers don’t support DX11, it won’t be able to use it. If it doesn’t,
installing DX11 won’t have any effect. Your DXDiag should help determine that though.
All i know is that in 1.31 patch i could go to the command line and type -graphicsapi direct3d9 and feel improvment in fps and dramatic reduction in mouse lag.
I will no longer be responding to my post.
