I’ve been working on making a custom map, and i noticed when playing it, either through test map, or launching the game and playing it via custom games, it does not use my set hero skins (aka female death knight, jaina daughter of the sea, etc). the skins work fine if i play a standard melee map vs ai, but not on my custom map, is this intended, or is there an option / change i’m missing on the editor that allows me to do it and i just havn’t found it yet?
to further give info, logging in tot he game, while having female demon hunter skin enabled on profile, i create a game using my custom map, and hire a demon hunter from the alter of elders, and it gives me the male version instead, but if i make a new verus ai melee game, it gives me the female one as it should.
tl;dr does skin selection only work on standard melee map games or is there an option in editor to use your unlocked skins that i havn’t found yet?
I can’t use skins in my custom map either. What gives?
There is an option to set a unit skin at triggers editor. Just add an action to your trigger, at action type put search for text, type unit, you’ll see one action there that says “Set unit skin” with the option to change the skin string. Those collection set skins are for melee maps only, for custom maps you’ll have to set them.
And how do I set them? You’ll need to go over it step by step because I can’t make heads or tails of the editor by myself.

Pardon but if you can’t make head or tail of the editor how did you manage to make a custom map in first place? Just play melee maps man. I don’t think it’s possible to play with your skins on a custom map the way i’m thinking you are asking cause the map author must set the skins that will be used in his map, if it’ll have any. It’s not in your hands to set them. The author of the map set the skins avaiable in his map. In the end, it’s a customized map, so only the author can set things there. I hope i understood what you’re asking. If not, enlight me.

I figured out parts of the map editor, like how to place objects and customize units, but the trigger editor still baffles me. It’s not as simple as the original StarCraft editor.

warcraft world editor is intense indeed
theres a website / forum community called the Hive Workshop that is dedicated to it
i recommend spending time there lurking in the old posts and stuff - maybe download a map from there , open it up , take a look at the editors for some clues . .
consider the trigger editor & object editor etc to be kind of technical disciplines in their own right - these things take a lot of time & patience to become familiar - it’s wise to start with the most simple things you can find - really like
- how “regions” , “units” , affect trigger events
- how those actors get handled by actions
- which triggers require “time” to pass, and what logic is necessary to place them
start small , have a good time . spend as much time learning from complete projects as you do troubleshooting your own

I answered that, it’s in the post above yours. “There is an option to set a unit skin at triggers editor. Just add an action to your trigger, at action type put search for text, type unit…”
