So i wanna change my keybinds for the items. How can i do this and why i cannot see any settings for this in the menu. Thank you.
I have read from another post that you need to change it by editing a text configuration file.
Where is this file located?
It should be Blizzard telling people how to do this but no all they’ve said is that you need to find the Customkeys.txt located in your game folder. Boom, that’s it. You figure out the rest.
Honestly, they should have a built-in option to change hotkeys, this game is a bloody embarassment. Period.
Blizzard, hire some actual passionate developers who gives a !#$$ about this game and give us some 2020 features.
Still can’t believe Customkeys.txt is still a thing, what a joke.
Big true. Thanks dude.
To help you with your issue, take a read on this site:
https ://gaming-tools.com/warcraft-3/hotkeys/
It might be a bit confusing for non-tech savvy people but its not hard to understand. Then again, Blizzard can’t be arsed making a proper guide at least, forget the built-in feature.
Sorry this thread probably isn’t appropriate for showing my frustration, hope you figure it out
Well that’s 2020 for you - editing settings in a text file, lol.
Shame we don’t have a billion dollar company who can deliver us a much better remaster with up-to-date features… Oh wait.
i’m so disappointed by this, this was a no-brainer change blizzard should have put in. Baffling and incompetent.
Launch reforged go to options then inputs click preset keybindings set to custom it will tell you where the file is at. Then alter the one withOUT .txt
COPY IT after you set the hotkeys you want.
How to do it you will see things like
// Sentinel
[Aesn]
Tip=S|cffffcc00e|rntinel
Hotkey=E
listed make sure it is captial and replace the E with what ever hotkey you want. So say
// Sentinel
[Aesn]
Tip=S|cffffcc00e|rntinel
Hotkey=T
Do this to all them you want changed save then like I said earlier, delete the .txt. one and copy paste CustomKeys rename it to CustomKeys.txt So both are their with the same scrypt. The reason I said copy paste it is because for some reason if i only do one it doesnt work.
Then in game make sure you have it set to custom keys on. My designation is
c/user/peter/documents/warcraftiii/customkeybindings
don’t use that site please, they ripped off my original guide lol

this^ is the most up to date hotkey setup (just click ^here)
you know its a lot easier for people to just use the guide I linked ^ above?
plus my setup also includes the inventory item hotkeys ![]()
is it really that difficult? all you have to do is copy the .txt file into your document folder, most people just use my pre-set QWER aligned hotkeys, and if its not good enough you can always use warkeys to edit them further
check out my detailed and easy to setup guide for hotkeys (link is just above)
your guide is either outdated or it screws up regular hotkeys such as build, hold, stop, etc.
if anyone is looking for a custom keybind setup, look at Warkeys
i know im bringing this post from the graveyard but I was looking for a way to edit hotkeys, especially item keys
lol what are you talking about? the majority of customkey users use that guide and theres no problem with build, stop, or hold
both Attack and Stop are unchanged (A and S respectively)
build = Q and farm = Q and Brax = W and Tower = A
tier 1 buildings on top, tier 3 at the bottom, and its the same for every race
its all written in the guide if you actually tried reading it
kind of annoying re-writing all this for somebody when its already written on the guide
since you couldnt bother actually explaining what your problem was i assume that you just didnt read the explanation given within the guide or you just didnt understand it correctly??
what exactly are you trying to change? why would you not use the grid alignment??
you know that the inventory items require a separate tool right? my guide also covers the inventory item keys (which are on the numpad by default) so i really dont understand what you think my guide is outdated for?? sigh… maybe if there was something specific you could explain then maybe i could help, but at this point i cant just guess
