Current situation

Hey there,

I know a lot of trolls are making it in these forums. I know nearly everyone would like to have a release and are talking about wanting a refund. Just stay with your choice about buying reforged. Give the dev’s time. Be glad they arent talking about microtransactions and a whole new concept they are still being true to warcraft. And i hope for a bugless game from blizzard. And i believe in them

Why not? I would be incredibly disappointed if there weren’t any.

Honestly, I think people over-react online about microtransactions.

No game, F2P or otherwise, have I ever played that has had microtransactions were ever so necessary that it got in the way of my own personal enjoyment of the game.

I get it if someone else feels differently and stuff like this does get in the way of their enjoyment, but that’s on them to deal with. There’s never been an ‘objective truth of the evils of microtransactions’. Skins, Mounts, Dances, Transmogs have all been normalized like preorders, expansions and DLC.

Personally, I don’t like microtransactions that can’t be obtained through in-game currency. I just don’t get why it would ever affect enjoyment of a game when it’s literally optional. If it’s because you can’t have something someone else gets through money, then it’s no different than someone getting a Collectors edition with special bonuses where you just bought the Standard edition. It’s the same damn thing.

i dunno, it depends

in the past these things weren’t that big an issue
it’s been normalized because they can derive money from it
is that bad? again depends

you say you don’t like items that can’t be obtained through ingame currency, i feel the same way for the most part

but then i’m not sure your point of it being optional. It may be optional from the standpoint of gameplay, but the option to me is always either “me want that” or “me don’t want that”, that’s it, if I want it and it’s not available through in game currency then I’m not gonna be happy about it. not at all

and remember that this happens in a product that i paid money for, i’m talking about some of these triple A games. Reforged for instance it’s not free to play, they expect money, how much is it? it’s 40 $ for me, regional pricing. I paid to be entertained and now i’m made to feel worse cause they want me to give em more? why’s that? is it because the package for 40 is already complete, this is just additional stuff that shouldn’t be considered as part of the initial purchase? okay, but then how many additional things do they add, and how many do I want out of those? what’s their price? some stores have enough additional items in them that you could probably spend 20000 $ to get them all at the current time. But that’s not the case, is it? Some people luckily don’t want all of the store, but then there’s a subset of ppl that are dubbed “collectionists”. Wow, those guys have no chance at all, those guys are out of luck in regards to them “completing” a collection.

And those people exist, i remember i saw a post from a chinese person on the heroes of the storm forums about a year ago, dude was writing to blizzard and was not happy that he couldn’t keep up with getting everything in the store anymore, he said he spend upwards of 400$ the past month, and now since there was an event he has to cough up more and he’s not able to.

Optional optional, but how optional is it? Is it normal for a person to want about half a store? is it normal to pay anywhere from 1000 to 10000 maybe to get that? do we need any guidelines or standards or can it be free for all?

It’s all within context of what you want, what you can live without, and what you are willing to pay.

For example, let’s take SC2. There are definitely microtransactions in SC2.

It started with Collectors Edition/Deluxe Edition adding custom skins for single units. Thor got a new skin. They also added custom portraits that only Collectors edition has.

Over time, they’ve added campaign DLC, premium Arcade maps, Melee skins, Co-op Commander heroes and Warchests.

What would you consider acceptable here and what would you consider not acceptable? You are right, it absolutely depends. And you are right, if someone has to pay $1000 to get it all, it seems ridiculous. But what is important is - could you live without having it. And I don’t think most people address this, they simply assume that they will feel uncomfortable for not having a payless option and because psychologically, there is an expectation to obtain everything that is available in the game.

But that’s simply not true in most cases. You can’t get all skins in a MOBA without paying for it all. You can’t get all SC2 content without paying for it all. It’s just a matter of fact that there are things you can’t get without paying, so it’s really a matter of where the individual draws the line.

And when it comes to a blanket statement like ‘Microtransactions are a problem’, it is not a universal statement to make. Everyone has a different line to accept, and that’s it. And I honestly think that if it gets in the way of enjoyment of a game, then the individual has to reassess their own value systems and determine whether they are willing to pay to satisfy their needs, or simply live without it. Just like everything in life.

I actually feel the opposite.

If it’s a f2p game, I expect everything to be unlockable both with time and with money.

If it’s a buy-to-play game, of course there will be things that are buy-only. My rationale is that f2p games are made with grinds in mind, whereas why do you even need a grind in a complete product (I know why, but besides the point)?

But then, my point of reference is Dota2 from before 2013…

sorry i pre-ordered day one and have had virtually no update on info until i discovered it had a forum to come to, about a month ago i found this forum ( i don’t go to forums not my thing ) and honestly wanted to play this before classic release, but now knowing there’s no way this releases before classic i do want a refund because it will be years before i touch it with classic launching… and no im not a troll

well in regards to what you say about about collectors editions at least that stuff is for the most part standardized, i dunno about collectors, i know deluxe is about 10-20 $ more than standard… but actual micro-transactions have no limit for the most part… especially the lootboxes make that upward treshold vary considerably, hence why it even became a thing

but yeah, i dunno, i personally wouldn’t have a problem if i could afford stuff i want, but sometimes i don’t
see but this is games, why does it have to be like everything else in life as you say…
even then it’s not… if i’m poor you don’t see me snooping around a 5 star restaurant looking at the food they have
can’t escape an in game store though, i mean maybe i could not open it, but even then, most companies try to let you know about featured items, they have banners and what not or in game reminders about their shop, they even give you lootboxes every level for free

There are no loot boxes in SC2.

Exactly, WarChests are not gambling simulator, you pay for what you want, even if the progress system and post WarChest prices are a bit fishy

me and Triceron were talking about overall industry microtransactions I believe.

In the case of SC2 the warchest has no gambling indeed, I myself purchased all but 1 warchest so far. Some other people mentioned they sort of copied the battlepass system from battle royales. I guess the idea is, since the game is free to play they want to have retention, so by having you have to unlock progress to get the things you paid for they achieve that.

But ofc some ppl are displeased with that, although there’s quite enough of time for you to unlock things, technically it is possible to get just 1 or 2 or 3 skins only, depending if you bought 1 race pack, 2 or all 3, by not logging in after purchase for like 3 months or how long the time span they allocate is. The short of it is “I paid, just give me the stuff already”.

Me, i don’t have an issue with that, and the price for the initial purchase seems alright, 30$ for all 3, but the idea is this a DISCOUNTED price.
And remember there’s now buildings warchests too, so to have a complete set for just one race is 20$, 60$ for all 3… Is that reasonable? I seem fine with it for now.

The problem as you yourself noticed Mr Defiler, is the after price if you miss buying a bundle. Let’s see, if i go to the shop right now, I can see they have the individual race unit skins of the warchest i missed. They’re currently “discounted” apparently, but these prices are whacked, 23.92$, 25.41$ and 26.91$. And NOT discounted they’re 47.87$, 50.83$, AND 26.91$. That’s Canadian dollars. Excuse me sir, but those are gonna be 150$ at some point??? That’s way more than fishy to me.

So just with this, i already missed on one warchest and if Reforged is gonna implement something similar with same price points, damn son, i’m gonna get sammich’d hard, and all I’ll be left with is sadness. I wanted to have those mecha zerg skins, but I missed out, now i have the mecha buildings, but i gotta cough up 25.41$ to complete the set.

I love the SC2 skins and I’m ok with microtransactions to sponsor post launch dev interest but yes… The SC2 skins are too expensive. I hope if they add those to WC3, they’re more reasonably priced.
Skin sets should not cost full games.

I find HOTS skins to be overpriced too.

I bought a few skins for HOTS in its first or second year, but after they changed it to the 2.0 system, I’ve not spent a dime. It’s actually been easier for me to farm loot than before, and the gem system confuses me. I’d rather just see a price and be able to pick and choose, but that’s me. Still, I’m happy they have the shard system that lets you craft skins you want. As long as it’s obtainable in game, I am happy.

Did you see the new economy model where they removed purchasable lootboxes. Only gold/levels spent on them now.
I’m glad the HotS team switched to a more honest model. It’s still overpriced but… It’s more honest.
