The patch from Warcraft III: Reforged Patch Notes - Version 2.0.3 - July 17, 2025 made the following change:
- Ctrl + C now camera tracks a selected unit instead of just snapping to location
I have discovered some issues with this newly implemented functionality.
Say you have heroes and units in a control group. If you tab over to units in that control group and press Ctrl + C (or Alt + C), the camera will still snap and camera lock to the hero.
Also, say you have a control group of a few different sets of units (aka subgroups). If you tab to the second, third, fourth, etc. subgroup and press Ctrl + C (or Alt + C), the camera will always snap and lock screen to the first subgroup.
Furthermore, after performing Ctrl + C (or Alt + C) to “track a selected unit”, the camera is unable move when the mouse goes to the edge of the screen. This type of behavior is dangerous in game as it essentially locks your screen on the “camera track”. There are a few ways to get out of this lock, such as pressing Ctrl + C (or Alt + C) a second time, pressing backspace to shift camera to a town hall, etc, but no method has been openly expressed on how to break out of this forced camera lock.
Also, this Ctrl + C (or Alt + C) behavior does the same thing to buildings in a control group. If you have a group of buildings in a control group it will always center and lock camera to the first building in the control group.
Someone also discovered that the new Ctrl + C camera lock works on enemy units you don’t have vision for.
This new behavior of Ctrl + C, or Alt + C, hinders very important camera changes that players relied on for many many years in the past. So my suggestion is to put a toggle in the options menu similar to that of the “Snap Camera to Worker on Double Click” toggle to turn on or off.
Thank you for your time.
