I would love to see this feature added to the game. There are so many commanders that players could use with unique units to their armies. Enemies can be generic Humans, Orcs, Undead, or Night Elves, with Legion units as boss type enemies.
This mode was amazing in SC2 and is a must have for a modern Blizzard RTS.
Imagine for the commanders you could do things like:
Illidan; similar Kerrigan in sc2 co-op but I would want naga units not night elf
Lady Vashj; naga focused
Tyrande; Sentinel focused
Malfurion; druid focused
Kael’thas; blood elf focus (think his missions in frozen throne)
Arthas; hungering undead (ghouls, massive aggressive armies)
Kel’thuzad; plague (slaughter house units)
Baine; Tauren focused (probably have to add units)
Grommash; grunts and war raiders focused
Thrall; unity of the horde (large selection of units not really focused on any one thing)
Sylvannas; remember unlike wow dark rangers are a neutral hero, maybe Mercenaries?
It would be really awesome, but if you consider how all original missions were really build for having one person in charge, I don’t know how they would implement it while still keeping the original story intact.
Also, there is already a fan-made 2-player co-op, just look it up from Hiveworkshop. Could be easily done by Blizzard as well. There’s even a walkthrough in Youtube, if you want to see how it looks like in-game.
Me and my friend were discussing this the other night while playing Coop.
There is enough variety in existing character models that a coop mode would be easy to put into place.
Just to name a few factions out of the main 4 that could be used from launch…
Corrupted Orcs,
Blood Elves,
Naga,
Frozen Throne Mercenaries like Tychus
Give him some creep units and Anub’arak could lead a swarm of monsters like Dehaka.
Some factions could be used by creating 1 or 2 additional units. For example, 1 close quarter unit and you can have a Vol’jin and the trolls or Muradin and the dwarf for Coop!
Hell if the mode proves successful we could even see WOW races added for Coop! Like the Wulfen, Pandarian or Draenei.
Please Blizzard if anything needs to be added to Reforged it’s a coop mode.
I kind of hope that it lieu of a proper RTS sequel that Reforged becomes a platform for a lot of cool things that they maybe just had not thought of back in the day.
I had not really thought about Co-Op Commanders, but it could definitely be one option. Another would be campaign expansions a la Nova Covert Ops. I am not sure whether it would be possible to make new expansions that would be compatible with both Classic and Reforged, but that does not stop them from making new campaigns for Reforged only.
What I would really like to see though is some maps that mashup WarCraft III and HotS: RTS maps with self-spawning minions, core structures, and most importantly: OBJECTIVES. My preference would be to make 3v3 be the default setup, though they could try several different team sizes (or even just 1v1 versions). Like, I wrote some posts about this earlier in the year on other forums and I really want to see a full “Armies of the Storm” style game. But failing that I would like to see that done in WarCraft 3 but I do not have the skills to do it myself.
Long story short, I think they really need to milk Reforged as much as they can for feedback on what they should do with a future full fledged RTS. Grubby says that body blocking is what makes WarCraft III so great, so I think I would want that in the next big Blizzard RTS. But other than that it is a bit up in the air right now. At least until they tell us what Browder and Kim are working on.
Well, I’m not entirely sure how the SC2 system works, but I just pointed out that it could be done, and I don’t think it would be that hard to implement. I mean, they did it all for SC2, and the WC3 system didn’t even need to be that deep. I’d be happy to just be able to play the campaign with a friend.
I’d suggest looking into SC2 co-op commanders, it’s got a lot of really interesting ideas to it. The subfaction system is something that the Warcraft setting was made for.
Also, if you want to play the campaign co-op, it’s already available
