Hi everyone. What if we have a 3x3 field for inventory, instead of 3x2? The top row could be designed for charged and consumed items only. The bottom two are for all type of items. The 3x3 fields will match the 1-9 numpad keys. This change is very similar to the change that happened in Dota 2 two years ago.
As an option: at the start only the top two rows could be available. Then there can be an upgrade in the Altar to research “increase the size of the inventory” by 3 items. That would make the game a bit more appealing to masses and will not change its competitive spirit. What do you guys think?
IMHO the best inventory size would be 6x0. Or 0x9. Or anything, as long as there’s a zero
So many items reduce the strategic depth of WC3. Especially portal scrolls, teleport staves and instant-buildings. There definitely does NOT need to be more focus or availability for items IMHO.
For creeps, you could possibly have sale-only items (like gems that are automatically sold to town halls and neutral structures). But best might be just increasing the creep kill bounties.
Otherwise, maybe just improve WC3 by removing all the anti-strategic items (especially those listed above) - perhaps replacing them with truly pro-strategic ones. After that, perhaps discuss whether inventory size is still suitable.
EDIT: This only applies to melee. Custom games should be able to choose, and a more flexible inventory size for customs would be a big plus. And it’s fun to play with items in the campaign, too.
I feel like if you take out portals completely, it changes the risk-reward system out of harassing the enemy’s worker lines or a quick raid to take out a couple supply buildings.
I think Invul potions, Scroll of Healing/Protection and Staff of X could be toned down or even removed. They add a lot to strategy, but I think there should be more focus on racial balance than neutral items. If you want scroll of protection type ability, then you should be getting a unit that provides a similar buff, not just going to the store and plopping gold before your opponent does.
True, but it works both ways to some degree. You have to risk being caught out, but if your opponent is out of place and unaware s/he can’t just teleport back, so you gain much more destruction.
I don’t really mind a single TP scroll given to the 1st hero. And I don’t mind the archmage’s skill at all. But the unlimited supply of them really alters the game in a bad way IMHO.
That’s another good point. You could also think about limiting neutral heroes to 1 to further preserve racial identity.
Personally, I dont see this as being very useful. Maybe if I was using a strategy with only 1 hero then maybe it could help, but in most cases I would rather just have another hero that can carry 6 more items. If I am playing standard and get my 2nd hero pretty early, I wont need to waste money on that upgrade because I rarely ever have more than 12 items unless its a really long game and at that point I should have a 3rd hero
Would this upgrade change competitive spirit? No.
Would it be more appealing to the masses? Probably not, theres better ways to make the game more accessible imo
I would say the Staff and tome of XP could be toned down, but not removed… healing scrolls? hmmm I’m not sure if those are an issue
gl hf, everybody will be playing undead then without invulnerability potions
I’d prefer the ability to change keybinds on heroes inventory tbh, numpad is pretty bad I think, even pro player most the times will go to click items instead of going for numpad.
